@DamndestBastard Not sure games wouldn't be better if we took all of those things into account. Like not in detail or anything, but like recognizing they exist as part of the realism/resource management aspect of the game. Especially if we're going to make having a good night's sleep a big deal.

@memeslich Wrap it in heavy fabric so I don't have to touch it and take it to a temple associated with whatever the item's deal is as soon as possible. Ask their counsel as to whether they need to keep hold of it or if they can purify it so it can be used safely.

@memeslich When it makes sense in the narrative. Defeat a badguy who would have some magic items? Clear a dungeon created to guard a feared magic item? That sort of thing? Awesome. But don't stuff them in out of some sense of obligation to game balance. Keep the story the foremost thing!

@memeslich Not in a vacuum, but the idea that all beings in the official D&D multiverse are engaged in a cosmic struggle and that there's a plane of existence that mirrors the inner nature of each person's soul is pretty epic and adds a lot of fundamental stuff to the setting.

@memeslich I don't feel like it's the resting so much as the ridiculous Deadpool levels of healing that 5e has happen during them. It would be funny to have the PCs rest and be like: Okay you sleep for 8 hours. You aren't sleepy at all. HP? What no you're still badly injured, but nice nap.

@WizardGoesBoom Not from what I've seen. Dragonlance was responsible for onboarding a bunch of 12 year olds into Dungeons & Dragons by way of their very YA soap opera novels. The adventures based on the novels were never particularly popular or good--too railroady, and too much novel recapping.

@memeslich Our games are pretty dramatic and are taken pretty seriously by everyone, even if they do veer a little chaotic sometimes.

@memeslich Because the rules don't output realism, so rather than put up with nonsense results D&D players toss what the system puts out and just improvise something that works.

@roguecaliber I feel like what makes TTRPGs special as opposed to video games is that rather than having a prefabricated story you get forced into because of limited game resources, you get freedom to be who you wish. My advice? Get PC concepts then weave them together & discover the story.

@memeslich ?? Critical Role is doing what it's doing in order to escape from D&D so they can transition over to Daggerheart. And Daggerheart Critical Role is GOLD!

@memeslich Hat of Disguise. Just hands down the best item in terms of drama for NPCs and sheer utility for PCs. It's so good!
