Howard's Cōnǝn. Not de Camp's. Not Marvel's. Not film's. Born on a battlefield; parents weren't murdered; didn't grow up a slave; black hair; blue eyes.

Won't take much to scrub it from Wayback Machine as well. One call from Taylor Lorenz would do it since she's tight with the owners of the site (they've scrubbed every mention of her name from their archive).
I recommend finding another, different (or personal) archive.

Today is the nameday of the father of Sword & Sorcery, and my heart is filled with gigantic melancholies for his absence.
Rest high on Crom's mountain, Robert E. Howard.
You are sorely missed.

Reminds me of a cross between Dave Trampier's "Wormy" style art and Barry Windsor Smith, but with way more edge.
His Conan/Red Sonja stuff is spectacular.

This was my good boy.
He wasn't the best boy but he was mine.
This morning he picked a fight he couldn't win.
I laid him to rest alongside his best girl who passed from old age not 3 weeks ago.
He was 4 years old.
I will miss you, my good boy.
Every day.

It's well past time for another art appreciation tweet.
Michael C. Hayes is an amazing artist with Medieval and Swords & Sorcery overtones.
His style reminds me of Clyde Caldwell with a touch more realism.
Respect.

The accounts responding to this great tweet don't have Brotherhood of the Wolf in their life, and it shows.
Had to go over 50 posts down to find the 1st mention.

...3 months later...
Pathfinder: Instead of changing the name/lore of dark elves, like we'll do with all the other monsters, we're just going to say they don't exist.
Everyone who switched to C&C:

Gigantic melancholies this day. Robert E. Howard went into the dark 88 years ago.
He sang the song of my people.
Hail to the father of Sword & Sorcery.
You are sorely missed.
Raise a glass to salute the great Robert E. Howard, on the 88th anniversary of his passing, in Cross Plains, TX. Incredible innovator of sword-and-sorcery, weird fiction, horror, boxing, action/adventure, western, weird west stories, and more, as well as an equally impressive

I ridiculously love Adam's faux AD&D core book covers and this Late Night Clyde Caldwell one is indeed fantastic.

Part 2: Why didn't Howard write Conan's origin tale?
TLDR: He didn't want to.

I often praise Elizabeth Moon's Deed of Paksenarrion as a primer on how to play a Paladin in D&D (which is why she wrote it).
But anyone who's read it also knows it's a great portrayal of a D&D Druid.
If you play D&D and have not read Deed of Paksenarrion, you are wrong.

We lost our oldest dog this morning around 6am. She had a medical emergency and went home a short time later, before anyone other than me was awake.
She came to us as an adult and gave us 10 years of love.
We tried to deserve her.
Best girl.

You're a white guy, pumping a film about a tribe responsible for a huge portion of the African slave trade, written by 2 white women.
Maybe 1 star raters aren't the racists in this scenario.
Meanwhile every non-racist S&S fan on Earth is (still) waiting for an Imaro film.
“We don’t hate that she’s black or that she’s a woman, we just hate that they have to ‘race-swap’ characters instead of creating new, strong characters for black actors and women!”
Ok, explain this…

An account with social anxiety who I won't @ here, recently wondered if Howard's Conan stories are worth reading because the old Ace paperback covers make them seem "too manly".
Howard is the Grandfather of Sword & Sorcery and easily one of the greatest authors of all time.

The "inherently evil Orcs" debate is raging, again, today.
As I do on many occasions, I simply ask myself: WWCD (what would Conan do)?
Conan: "Kill the creature that's trying to kill you.
Don't waste time pondering its alignment. It doesn't matter.
Rinse.
Repeat."

So, Tencent owns Funcom; Funcom owns Cabinet; and Cabinet owns the rights to Robert E. Howard's non-public domain works, like Conan.
And now Tencent could buy D&D?
Might D&D stop being an Identity Marxism wasteland?
If yes, Hyborian Age campaign setting for D&D when?

One of the most egregious omissions made when praising D&D cover artists (Parkinson, Elmore, Easley) is forgetting Clyde Caldwell. Sadly, I am also guilty of this.
Time to correct my error.
Clyde Caldwell is what is best in life.

Whose brain would you love to pick, and what would you ask them?
Question: "What did you think of Milius' Conan film?"
Just stopped in to catch up on my mentions; I hope everyone is having a great, safe, 4th of July.

Lots of people hoping George is the buyer.
But what if it's not? What if the buyer is even worse than Disney?
I finished being optimistic about Star Wars in December 2017.

I read Conan 1 by Titan.
First-off, what I liked:
It's an entertaining S&S tale. Creepy elements, warriors fighting supernatural creatures, good bastards versus bad bastards, and De La Torre's art is fantastic.
No worse than other comics named Conan.

This needs to happen. And it needs to NOT be "updated for modern audiences"
Seeing George FTDB* Martin doing everything possible to avoid finishing ASoIaF for 13 years.
Thinking about what I'd give to have had 13 more years of work (of any kind) by Robert E. Howard.
