@srinathchess Awonder Liang* Evaluating an open or closed event’s strength by TAR of the top 8 makes no sense. A 100-player open with 8x 2700s and the rest 2200s is weaker than an open with 50x 2550 GMs out of 100, but the first awards many more points. The formulas should be reevaluated.

@GMJacobAagaard @wr_chess Honestly not sure what metric is best for evaluating the strength of an open - top 8-10 seeds, quantity of 2650s, 2550s, median/mean/minimum rating, etc. Each field has its pros and cons. The main concern is that circuit points are being reduced based on none of these factors.

@GMJacobAagaard @wr_chess In my opinion, STL Masters and US Masters were stronger than Qatar and most other opens in 2024 - it would be odd that they award fewer circuit points in 2025. The number of points should be based on the strength of the event, not its scheduling.

@GMJacobAagaard @wr_chess 90 minutes plus 30 second increment is surely classical but they are nerfing that just because it's 2 games/day for 5 days which apparently requires significantly lower effort and energy than 1 game/day for 10 days.

Unfortunately @VBkramnik has already blocked me. I had hoped that he was open to a respectful dialogue. Thank you for supporting @GmNaroditsky against V. Kramnik's attacks. There are hundreds who wrote in privately, but here's who has supported publicly:

My friend @GmNaroditsky is being attacked and falsely accused by Vladimir Kramnik. Please take a principled stance in signing this open letter which was written to support Danya and call Kramnik out. To add your name, comment here, send a DM, or email - oen.grant@gmail.com

@EmilSutovsky The top prizes (60k-50k-40k etc) are too close. Professionals need this income and prefer to settle for a solid prize than risk going for the title when it’s “only” 20% more than 2nd. ~30-40% diff. between top prizes is more standard for opens, and will make it more fighting.

@PHChess Sep 2023: 2815 (14 games, +8.0) Nov 2023 (live): 2808 (16 games, -6.6) So, Magnus' current rating would be 2808 if he were 2700 on Jan 2020.

@USChess Not exactly an Armageddon blitz game where one side bc would have draw odds, but more like “Winner takes all” blitz games. If every game is drawn, it seems that they play forever.
