Congrats to Magnus (twice!), Alexandra and Bibisara. Well deserved victories! Thanks to all the players, who delivered this magnificent spectacle - and also to all the numerous fans. Thanks to hospitable Doha, and the local organizing team, joining FIDE to bring this

Proud about @FIDE_chess broadcast from Doha winning the hearts and eyeballs of spectators with a big margin. It is indeed better than our previous efforts from similar events - however we are still aiming to improve it further. Meanwhile, kudos to the technical team, and to our

To those interested: Up to 2022 there was no long tie-break in either Open or Women. Only top-2. Then we had a poll where all the top players were asked about the best system.. The tie-break systems used now reflect preferences of a vast majority of players in respective

Emanuel Lasker was born on this day 157 years ago. I make a case for him being one of the most important personalities in the chess history - and not only because he reigned for 27 years. It is largely thanks to him, chess emerged as a highly reputable game, an epitome of

The quality of broadcast is one of the things we will put a lot of effort towards Candidates-2026. What features you'd like to see there? What should be improved compared to Toronto? What kind of content outside the games you would be interested to see? Kindly compare with

FIDE Circuit-2025 has a winner! Congrats to Pragg, well-deserved spot to Candidates-2026. As we are finalizing regulations and prepare some updates and novelties, you are welcome to feedback about the FIDE Circuit: What did you like, and what should be improved going forwards.

I got a lot of remarks about the rating spot. While I agree rating does have a lot of merit, it still does not reflect recent performances good enough, plus it does not differentiate top individual events from all other. FIDE Circuit is actually serving as the rating/ranking of a

"Clearly good enough" is a bad definition to select a player in FIDE Candidates. Unless we return to wild card system in Candidates (not under my watch!), it can't work. "He doesn't really have time for" is more alarming tho. Really? We are talking about qualification to the

Kudos to Andrey Esipenko - claiming the third qualification spot - very deserving indeed. To remind you, in 2021 World Cup he was close, fighting on par with Magnus. In 2023 he played exceptionally well in the Grand Swiss, but narrowly missed it. And here he finally qualifies.

One of the most shocking chess positions I've ever seen. Cognoscenti would recall it is from Nimzowitsch-Capablanca. Looks about equal. If one thinks deeper, black seems to be somewhat better, as white's attacking potential is nil. Still it is outright impossible to believe it

Congrats to Sindarov and Wei Yi, who make it to the final and the FIDE Candidates-2026! Very much deserved indeed. Commiserations to Esipenko - losing like that is very painful. World Cup's format usually does not forgive such mistakes, but Andrey got another chance - and his
