@RPK_NEWS11
The MCU doesn't need a reboot. It needs to slowly build up to a proper ending and then just stop forever. Tie up all the loose ends with a nice bow, and then let it be, like a real classic story.
@EmmaTolkin
Basically, a flat image has less contrast. the bright areas are less bright, and/or the dark areas are less dark, so the different areas don't stand out as much next to each other.

It's true, honestly. Padme married Anakin after he told her that he murdered kids, she won't turn against him just because he killed some more.

That movie never presents any argument against "changing our means of production". It just presents a sci-fi scenario in which the earth is doomed, which is not an inherently conservative idea.
@Bjorksbxtch
The idea that his Batman movies were conservative was always dubious. His patriot-act metaphor was criticized as a horrible idea, the "occupy Wall Street" revolution was framed as an understandable reaction to problems with the system, etc.
@FellowshipFans
They're definitely better in some ways (They make good use of HDR, and the new color-grading is more nuanced and filmic and less filter-y), but the DNR is horrible, and the decision to desaturate all the flashbacks/flash-forwards was ridiculous.
The way Pan's Labyrinth ends without making it clear whether the fantasy world is real or not, while also not drawing any attention to that lack of clarity...😭
That respect for viewer interpretation is SUCH a powerful tool, it blows me away every time.
As a Jewish Israeli, I'm afraid too - I am afraid of terrorists, but I'm also afraid of reckless, foolish statements like this, which do nothing but fan the flames of violence, leading to more deaths for both Palestinians and Israelis.
Noah Schnapp shares statement on Israel and Palestine:
“You either stand with Israel or you stand with terrorism. It shouldn’t be a difficult choice. Shame on you.”
@artwithinpod
The people behind the Volume have themselves said that the lighting in the Volume isn't actually accurate - you still need to tweak it in post, just like you do with green screen.
Guillermo Del Toro over-saturating the hell out of Pan's Labyrinth is such a cool illustration of that George RR Martin's quote... "We read fantasy to find the colors again". Del Toro sees the towers of Minas Tirith even in a small Spanish village.

Sometimes I see people criticizing my favorite ASOIAF/GOT characters on Twitter... And I just let them do it and scroll past it without replying.

The Batman (2022) was so devoted to being as "classic" and "Batman-y" as possible that it ended up feeling dull, predictable and generic.
The way the framing gets tighter on each successive shot of her punches...👌
This show is so good at cutting rapidly WITHOUT falling into meaningless visual noise.
@ireallyhateyou
Oh god...
On October 7th, freakin' Hamas managed to overwhelm Israel's air defense by saturating it with 3000 missiles.
Last night, Iran only sent 300 missiles, because it wanted to be restrained. They could send SO much more, and they would if a full war breaks out.

His political beliefs were... Strange.
"My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy (philosophically understood, meaning the abolition of control not whiskered men with bombs) — or to ‘unconstitutional’ Monarchy."
I think Joe Jonas overestimated how much the average person is Team Joe Jonas. I didn’t sit through 8 seasons of the most stressful poorly lit show to support that man.
Zuko broke an entire generation's understanding of redemption arcs, making them think that true redemption can only happen with guys who were never that bad to begin with.

Actually, the movie ends up saying that fascism is bad because it leads to senseless hate ,violence and death.
It sucks that Taika is a shitty zionist, but that doesn't change anything about the movie itself.
If a single person obsessed with media "literacy" actually cares about entertaining an alternative opinion of their favorite movie made by an unapologetic Zionist about why extreme racist nationalism leads to Bad Things & isn't just reflexively defending a movie they like here
I can't tell you how much I hated the 2010s wannabee edgelord phase of pop culture.
- Muted everyone's colour scheme
- Turned all your faves into angry nutbags
- Conflated goodness & sincerity with a lack of dimension
Bye bitch. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
"I think the show is deeply political"
Everything is political, but please, let's not treat the kids' cartoon about superpowers like it's effing War and Peace.
And tbc this is partly a joke. I can understand how/why people could like them together. I did, too at one point. Fire/water. Similar pasts. Enemies to lovers. I get it. But I think the show is deeply political and one that’s hard for me to divorce from real world implications
@gilestelscanvas
NUMENOR.
The chaotic-yet-beautiful city-layout. The lush color-design. The mediterranean/middle-eastern influences. The main Numenorean musical theme. Elendil's and Miriel's conflicted characters and perfect performances.
And most of all, the breathtaking introduction:
Aside from Bilbo’s portrayal, another big thing I disliked about The Lord of the Rings was the fact that Bilbo's ring was destroyed. Combine that with the line “I wish none of this had happened,” and I just take it as blatant disrespect for the original Hobbit book.
Aside from Luke’s portrayal, another big thing I disliked about TLJ was the fact that the Skywalker lightsaber was broken. Combine that with the line “let the past die,” and I just take it as blatant disrespect for the original six films.

Miyazaki didn't make this up, Tolkien SAID he thought of the orcs that way. It's one of the problematic elements of LOTR, and Miyazaki is 100% right to criticize it.

This seems like one of those things that can only work in animation. In live-action, the more realistic physics make it seem like she really is about to snap his fins off.
What are some examples of truly evil movies? Not necessarily in terms of depicting it, or thematizing it (or ideology/politics) but that truly feel like they’re channeling something awful into the world?(This was prompted by preparing a lecture on SPOORLOS).
