Thank you all for the love on my recent tweet. I have come a long way as can be seen on the left photo when I just learnt I got a scholarship to attend MSU for college back in 2014. I promised to make the most out of the opportunity & everyday I strive to fulfill that promise. 🙏🏾
I’m honored to be the inaugural recipient of the American Society of Black Neurosurgeons Dr. Clarence Sumner Greene Honorarium Award. Thank you for recognizing my contributions to our collective effort to make nsgy more diverse, equitable, & inclusive for everyone.

@musubakoto
So he is pretty much saying he does not care about the laws of the country. These type of imams scare me. There are way better things he should be preaching about but he chose to push for a practice that harms young girls and affects women.
Yesterday, as part of the mission trip, the Havard
@BWHNeurosurgery
team and Dr. Jabang (Gambian Neurosurgeon) successfully performed The Gambia's first Microscopic Endonasal Transsphenoidal Surgery for a Pituitary Macroadenoma.

One of my highlights at this year’s

meeting was visiting the

MGB partnered with Gambian Neurosurgeon Dr. John Jabang, and performed the country’s first-ever pituitary surgery. Dr. Jabang, Dr. Timothy Smith,
@SakshamGuptaMD
, Dr. Ryan Chrenek, and Dr. Hinna Malik completed five complex pituitary and skull base surgeries.
It is a shame that the Gambia National Assembly is debating to decriminalize FGM/FGC, a practice with no medical benefits but only exposes girls and women to harm. It is our responsibility to protect and advocate for young girls.

According to UNICEF, 73% of women & girls between the ages of 15 and 49 in The Gambia have undergone FGM. FGM robs women & girls of their freedom and dignity. It is time to reclaim our bodies, empower our choices,& end this harmful practice once and for all.

about 2 years & we instantly clicked.

1st pic: Email I got from a U.S. college recruiter that visited Gambia and was happy to tell all the high school students he met that “Gambian students are average”
2nd pic: Check out if I proved him wrong or not.

If discrepancies occur in the count, the team have to find the missing material before closure. That is standard practice & a situation like this means such practices, established for patient safely were not followed! I am glad patient is safe & definitely a learning moment.
What would I tell this young refugee who in 2002 had just landed in the USA looking for a better life
What would I tell this young black kid who just arrived in Harlem
I would tell him:
No matter the trials
No matter the tribulations
You stay strong

In 2012, my mentor
@DrMichaelKObeng
would constantly tell me “perseverance conquers all obstacles.” Then the statement sounded like something you would just say to motivate someone. A decade later I can now say I truly and profoundly believe in how far persevering can take you.
Highly recommend all aspiring neurosurgeon medical students in the state of Michigan to attend the MANS meeting. Great time to learn, connect and network with neurosurgeons and leaders in the field.

This is definitely terrifying & should not happen in this day and age. Mistakes happen but leaving a towel in someone’s abdomen is negligence. Surgeries shouldn’t be completed without the surgical tech doing a count of all equipment & materials used with the circulating nurse.
Check out this article from my good brother

reflecting on neurosurgery in the global stage.
Looking forward to seeing the innovative strategies you bring to the table in the future as a neurosurgeon, inshaAllah.
