I know there's an overload of Ross's Gull pics here, but I waited 6 hours for it and lay down on the frozen car park to get this pic, so I don't care 😀

What a cracking bird! First drake Smew I've seen in Glos in years that hasn't been a scope view across a lake, usually CWP. Well Done Sir Les, turn up tonight and I'll buy you a beer.

Great day starting at 5am for the Iberian Chiffchaff. Spent the rest of the day

with my family looking at everything that I usually run by on my way to the hides & I got Little Ringed Plover for the year. The 10 miles walked helped this
Re/GREAT GREY SHRIKE at Crabtree Hill. There have been reports of people leaving the main paths & moving through the gorse to get photos of the Shrike. There are ground nesting birds & basking reptiles here. Keep to the main paths with patience you will get good views.

Car's been off the road today so I've sorting, deleting 100's of photos. I took this in Mallorca in 2016, it's the most Hoopoes I've ever seen together. Apparently the collective noun is a Cry of Hoopoes, but that doesn't work for me. I quite like a Ring of Hoopoes. Suggestions?
Dog walkers who decorate the hedgerows of my patch at Frampton or anywhere else with dog 💩💩 should be made to eat it and have their

What kind of birder gets married in October? Well in 1985 a very naive one, but I did pick a great birder’s wife. 38 years today with a lot of world still to see together. 😍
When people ask me why I love

Adult Black-crowned Night Heron found at The Mythe pits, Tewkesbury by Geoff Everitt. Parking is difficult, with c3 spaces at the top of the lane next to the garden centre at SO8895834064 or you park in Tewkesbury and walk. Don't park in the the garden centre please.

So lightning does strike twice in the same place. Otter from the Severn Way near Gloucester this morning. Loving my new enforced patch.

Despite the new ticks, masses of British migrants, more Wrynecks & Hoopoes than I've ever seen, the scarcities of Black-bellied Sandgrouse & relocating the Yellow-browed Warbler & of course the Budgie 🙂 this Citrine Wagtail was still my Bird of the Trip. Just Fab!

Blast from the past 29yrs ago my 1 & only Nutcracker on 02/11/1991 at Cocknage Wood, Stoke-on-Trent taken on a box Brownie😀 Also saw my 1st Long-eared Owl at Park Hall. The day didn't have a happy ending though got home to see Aus beat England in the RWC Final 12–6😕Due another!
I've updated GB with advisory instructions for the Pen Tit & the GN Diver at the request of others.Whether you are a birder or a photographer if you don't know how to behave around wildlife then you should throw your bins/camera in the nearest pond/marina & leave TY

My wife, the Eco-warrior 😍 Whilst other ladies were striking Instagram poses in the sunset she was picking up plastic off the beach. I think we’d need to stay 3 months just to make a difference. Seems like all of Europe’s plastic waste has beached here in
#Cyprus
. Take it home!
Joking aside I’ve a small suburban garden with a pond. We’ve been here 36yrs. Garden list is 60+ inc flyovers. Best 3 birds actually in the garden are Kingfisher, Whitethroat & Meadow Pipit. Honourable mention for Cuckoo that flew through at eye level
#GardenBirding
What’s yours?
Just to clear the air, all of the photographers I know personally are decent people AND good birders. Because I called out one idiot yday I have had a shedload of 💩. I will continue to have an opinion & if it bothers you please feel free to unfollow.
Amazing day in Tenby with Bridgette to see the Walrus there. Convoyed down with
@PaulDMasters
& Mrs (2 cars). Time to pay my dues now by visiting the Mrs Welsh family, it’ll be like being an extra in Gavin & Stacy. I don’t care though what an incredible mammal.

Excellent morning around all the traditional sites in the Forest. Great Grey Shrike, 3 Hawfinches, 3 Goshawks, 1st Willow Warbler, Stonechats & Siskins. No Crossbills or Redpolls though, apparently in very short supply. Also an Adder & a Common Lizard.

The crazy obsessive gene that drives birders on saw me back on Cleeve Hill at dawn in 100% better weather. At least 2 Ring Ouzels by 7am. Unless some

finds something good, see ya next year Cleeve.

I rarely post Brown Hares because of the morons that still carry out Hare Coursing in Glos. This one was on safe private ground however and cracked me up by keep standing on his hind legs to see over the hedge at what I was doing. 😀

The Dunlins were crazy today running around my feet to feed coming so close they went out of focus. Just like being back in Florida. I don't ever remember them doing this, a real treat. The waders are dropping into the field between the sewage works & the Warth at HT
#GlosBirds
It went - Mega alert. Yomp to the quay. Boat to Bryher. Rib towards the beach. Boots & socks off & wade to shore. Yomp to Popplestone fields. Anxious wait. BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER on my list. What a bird! 😍 Worst pics on the net. Don’t care. What a day! I ♥️

I had this lovely Brown Hare whilst out and about in Glos today. You might notice they're never mentioned on The Gloster Birder although other wildlife is. This is because illegal Hare Coursing is still a thing in Glos, unbelievable in the 21st Century. 🤬
#GlosMammals
I think gulls are taking over my birding life. 6x to a gull roost in Feb & whilst the Waxwing y'day was lovely I got more pleasure from the Glaucous Gull. Yomping 2 muddy fields then creeping along the treeline to get a good view. Excuse the wobble I was sliding into the stream😃
Fab day on

Cleeve Hill - please if you are visiting to see Ring Ouzels do not chase the birds around, or flush them, but give them some space so they are able to feed. Thank you.

From Luke Clarke age 10 “Heading to the FoD on the A48 with Dad amazed to see 2 White Storks circling above Walmore Common. Stopped just before Walmore Hill Primary School. They were heading NE. Took the pics from the junction of Ley Road and Lower Ley Lane"

The worst thing about seeing Cretzschmar’s Buntings everywhere is spelling it. Spellcheck won’t help. 😀 Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates yesterday.

Spent the morning in the familiar position of dipping the Bluethroat in good company at Middle Point
@slimbridge_wild
. It may be in it's 4th year but it still hasn't developed a sense of responsibility to hopeful birders. I did have 2 showy Cuckoos✅

Back from a fab 12 days in Trinidad & Tobago. Many stunning birds & wildlife seen. Happy friendly people, great food & wall to wall sunshine. Not sure on a species count yet but here's 3 lifers, Oilbird, Bearded Bellbird & Scarlet Ibis + Red-billed Tropicbird
