This is a thread about Brady Street Pedestrianization. It's not about parking or delivery zones, but rather the larger parts of a project that will help ensure the long term viability of the project.

A woman grabbed my 12 year old brother at SummerFest tonight at the Maroon5 concert. She asked him how old he was and he said he was 12. She said he didn’t look 12. He ran away and kept his arms wrapped around me. After a bit she approached me and accused me of being a pedophile.
After she had laid her hand on my 12 year old little brother, she accused me of that. And now he’s afraid of Summerfest. He shouldn’t have had to deal with that. I’m so angry. I’m so so angry.
@GordonAChaffin
The rules that say cars shouldn’t park or drive in the bike lane are written in blood. They exist because people have died year after year and decade after decade. The fact that they decided to park there is peak entitlement and ignorance of the lives that have been lost.
@DanODonnellShow
Demand? This isn’t your city, it’s ours. We believe every eligible adult ought to be able to vote and will implement policies in OUR city to achieve those aims.
@wisgop
@janetforjustice
I know you guys are panicking because you’re losing the money race and private polling shows Kelly down, but this casual defamation is pathetic.
I think
@IsaacRowlett
,
@kevinmuhs
, and
@milwaukeedpw
deserve a round of applause. Issac for creating viral, shareable content and Kevin + the DPW for creating a significantly safer street. Y’all’ve gone viral. 🎉
If these get built, I’ll never drive to the Dells, Madison, the Twin Cities, or Green Bay ever again. In fact, I’ll probably go to La Crosse for the first time. All aboard!
Passenger rail helps people get to work, boosts tourism, and grows our local economies.
I voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help get Wisconsinites where they need to go efficiently and safely, and I’m excited to see these plans for passenger rail move forward!
If St. Francis wants to have a bigger say in City of Milwaukee affairs, they should vote for municipal consolidation. Why should we keep our city a worse place for the sake of Southshore suburbs. Maybe they should focus on themselves and their redevelopment instead of Milwaukee.
St. Francis mayor already worried about losing I-794, now raises concern about sacrificing driving lanes for protected bike lanes on an alternative E-W commuter link to I-94
@TearDown794
@SaintFrancisWI
Victors is for sale. This is a tragic loss of habitat for cougars. Where will they prowl now? Where else can a waitress get tipped in cocaine? A tragedy all around.
No. They shouldn’t get a dime from the county. We didn’t create a sales tax to fix county finances only to blow almost 3/8s of what it raises on a billionaire’s baseball team. If they’re going to spend $25 million a year, spend it on our parks and our busses.
NEWS: A proposal to maintain the

ballpark has grown to a $698 million package over 27 years, according to

Meanwhile,
@DavidCrowleyWI
's office shared ideas this week w/ Dem lawmakers to free up local money for effort.

You could probably write a book about how the Marquette area went from being one of the richer areas of the city to one of the poorer. The chapters would be…
I spoke at this meeting (was also the youngest person there) and told the wealthy Lake Drive residents that this would increase safety and their property values. They jeered and booed me. All of them are wrong.
Today's Public Works Committee in a nutshell as Lake Drive residents oppose a protected bike lane that will allegedly lower property values, harm cyclists, block garbage trucks, reduce underused parking
Ald. Robert Bauman: "I get it, you're against traffic calming in all forms"
So I just rode the new protected bike lanes on North and they’re pretty damn good. There are some issues that I’ll elaborate on, but biking on North is much safer, convenient, and *faster* than it was before.
WOW is no longer in control of the Wisconsin Republican Party. Darrow lost because of a shifting GOP base. WISGOP partisans may whine about the base electing bad candidates, but they neglected their coalition and embraced negative, destructive politics.

Next week, Republicans will be showcasing our beautiful state, extraordinary businesses, and many GREAT alternatives to
@JoeBiden
with the first GOP debate.
Milwaukee will survive. We will keep fighting to achieve our priorities. And we will take the state to court for unconstitutional laws that have undermined home rule. We will live in a very different city in 10 years, a better city.
Milwaukee plans to exploit loopholes in Act 12 to continue funding DEI and the streetcar expansion, while filing a lawsuit against the state that will inevitably be decided by the new liberal majority on the State Supreme Court, according to Ald. Bob Bauman.

@CautiousLefty
Well, we’re going to tear Scott Walker’s legacy up by the roots. We’re going to rectify the failures of his administration and the illegitimate legislature.
We have won a reconnect cities grant that will allow for the construction of the 6th street bikeway from North to National. It will be the lynchpin of the Milwaukee bikeway system intersecting with Walnut, Highland, Kilbourn, National, and Michigan. All…
NEW: The White House announces the purpose of President Biden's trip to Milwaukee tomorrow is to announce $3.3 billion in infrastructure projects meant to "reconnect and rebuild communities."
That includes $36 million to rebuild 6th Street in Milwaukee between North and National
Scott Walker did nothing to help the state. His “reforms” made it look like the state was saving money but moved the costs to other jurisdictions. He had a trifecta but did nothing to help solve the municipal fiscal crisis that was well apparent by his time…
Hi there, younger voter here.
I was apolitical until
@ScottWalker
fucked over my parents with Act10, and then turned my state into a shithole of rigged maps and evil politics.
It wasn’t college, it was because Scott Walker fucking sucks.
@JoshSchoemann
Why can’t you just be a good neighbor? Railing against Milwaukee is old and tired. It hurts all of us, even you and your constituents. There are other ways to make your name in politics.
@who_shot_jgr
The first picture shows my city prior to the creation of I-94. Prior to it, there was a rapid transit line over which existed many bridges. Walking into The Valley was easy. Not so much anymore. Which divided the city more?
Each of which requires someone else to pay for a benefit to a small number of people. Amtrak requires massive subsidies and lead pipes should be replaced by the owner, just like when a new roof is needed..
In July Target will open its first urban-format store in Alabama in downtown Auburn as part of a modest infill project. Downtown Auburn is one of the most densely populated areas in AL. This store will eliminate many car trips that frequent the conventional target store 6mi away.
Menomonee Falls has plans to develop a multi-use trail along Lisbon. Milwaukee is going to build a northwest PBL along Lisbon, Walnut and Sherman. We should work with Menomonee Falls to market this as a suburban-urban trail. Come up with a name and special signage for it.
This is a cardinal example of how the "flag reform" movement fails. Look at this flag. You'd think "what's the big deal, it's perfect for Santa Barbara, California" - right?
Guess what. It's a proposal for Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I’m starting to see a lot of Milwaukee content in urbanist spaces. I think we gotta thank our boosters like
@IsaacRowlett
. And maybe the city should hire our boosters to do PR 😂
Putting cones down on an existing street makes an immediate difference in how drivers operate on said street. We can drastically make our neighborhoods safer by just some paint and planters overnight.
The recent conversation around Parkways in Milwaukee makes me angry. Juneau Park is the closest park to me. And I can go there and see the narrow and sometimes buckled walking paths. Then I can look over the side and see the trail beds of long abandoned paths.
@WisconsinMC
I’ve never thought about my income taxes when I made the decision to stay. I moved to an urban center because of decent services and the opportunity to live in a dynamic city full of culture. Invest in QOL improving services not tax cuts.
I’ve never had a Kia Boy try and run my girlfriend and me down. However, an older white guy driving a Camaro did. Guys like Schimel may not be as big of a problem as the Kia Boyz, but they certainly are a huge problem.
The Milwaukee Baseball curse began after the last streetcar line (
#10
) ceased operation. And we’ll continue losing until a new streetcar or LRV takes fans there once again.
Republicans: Why does Milwaukee need fixed rail? Busses work just fine.
Republicans: Cut funding for the busses and attempt to drive MCTS, Milwaukee County, and the City of Milwaukee bankrupt.
About 80,000 people in Milwaukee ride the bus every day. It’s a diverse, mostly working class group.
State Republicans slashed Milwaukee’s transit funding *in half* in the last budget. Now, local officials are expecting cuts to go even further in ‘23-‘25.
Investing $2 billion dollars into freight and passenger rail improvements in the Milwaukee-Chicago corridor would provide enormous benefits for the regional economy.
@Morales4MKE
Speeding is not the issue. Excessive speeding is. Going 35 in a 25 not a problem to be honest. We know reckless when we see it. Reckless driving as we really know it is rare, and very concentrated among a select few people.
It’s funny how I get sunburnt in Milwaukee if I walk around all day, but I don’t in dense Spanish influenced cities because the streets are narrower and they make a bigger effort to provide shade
@SenChrisLarson
And why is Waukesha County contributing nothing? Why are Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, and Ozaukee remaining on the stadium board if they’re paying nothing? The stadium is on the border and contributes just as much to the hotels of Waukesha County in Brookfield and beyond.
Snow is so much less stressful if you live in a city. When I lived in WOW land, snow was so much more stressful because you had to drive to get anywhere. Here I just take the bus or walk. And as an added bonus, most drivers slow down.
Actually, improving Hiawatha Service is a good thing. And anytime anyone quotes Randal the tool, I’m going to stop listening. The man is a massive hypocrite and intellectually dishonest. That’s partially why he got fired from the Cato Institute.
An independent transportation analyst called the Evers’ administration’s projections “ridiculous.”
“Nowhere in the country has Amtrak seen ridership double in the years after it adds a new train or trains,” he said.
@UrbanMilwaukee
Our parks are worse off for having to maintain the parkways. They cost too much in both capital and maintenance expenses. Trails are much cheaper to build and maintain. They are also much safer for children, the elderly, and other folks to use.
@nowthisnews
I ride my bike and drive on this street and it’s much safer. Traffic speeds and reckless driving are down. What they’ve done is a godsend.
I don’t know why people think posting stuff like this is acceptable, especially in the context of posting about the birth of your child. Really feel like you should act like an adult and not an emotionally stunted, teenage, 57 year old. Your kids would be disappointed in you.
@Morales4MKE
You saw the murder suspect who crashed his car into a school bus the other day on Capitol Drive? Imagine if that bus full. Your goal is irrelevant and stupid. Congrats on the kid. But seriously, Milwaukee is a shithole and always will be and that’s why the population has dropped
- The destruction of public transit
- The construction of I-94 and I-43
- Concordia moving out
- The state gov helping the Medical College of Wisconsin move to Wauwatosa
- Marquette tearing down a lot of the buildings
- The state tearing down a bunch of the buildings for…
I love that all these people come to the Eastside to enjoy the lakefront when it’s beautiful like this. I just wish they could get here without bringing their cars. The cars really suck.
If the lives of urban residents must be degraded for the benefit of suburban commuters, that should be suggestive enough to determine the nature of the relationship: suburban commuters need to make urban life worse to make their own lives better.
During my recent visit to Milwaukee, the number one issue I heard from folks that they're concerned about is the rise of crime in our major cities.
The left's dystopian vision of de-funding the police is not how we make our cities safer.
You have my word, I'll ALWAYS have the
@DanODonnellShow
And we still have some of the lowest gas prices in the developed world. If you ever had a conservative argument for government failure, it would be that the government keeping gas prices artificially low has created more problems than it solved by distorting to the market
We call on Joe Biden’s failing campaign
@BidenHQ
and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I cannot beg people coming into the city enough: Please, don’t bring your guns. And if you do, please, don’t advertise it on your car. And lastly, please, lock it up. A significant number of the guns on our streets are stolen from suburbanite cars.
They don’t know how good they have it. And they want to squander the advantages Madison has by holding on to an identity that isn’t true anymore. Madison has become a city. And someday it may become a major city. It should act more like it.
The 2024 Republican Convention in MKE is going to be wild because conservatives from out of state are going to probably be much more respectful (not that respectful) than the WI ones who’ll be wishing that Milwaukee would sink into the lake.
I love Wisconsin but it breaks my heart sometimes. The state Republicans really love “owning the libs” by doing the political/legal equivalent of “why are you hitting yourself” to every local government in Wisconsin. It’s a bad, harmful policy, but it is a policy, I guess.
Apparently, these are feasible to build in Milwaukee. The only requirement that a local org, BID, NID, or Neighborhood Association would need to take care of the plantings. So if you’d like to have one in your neighborhood, talk to the
@milwaukeedpw
and your local org about it!
Oakland’s West Street safety project is testing out these raised intersections at a few school & bikeway xing locations. By keeping the raised part in the middle there was no drainage or concrete work needed, keeping it low cost & delivered via routine paving. What do you think?
Can we upgrade the downtown Oak Leaf Trail to this? There’s probably enough room. Maybe we could also get some lights to illuminate the trail at night.
@ToddBragstadMBJ
@MKEBizJournal
You’re one of the reasons Milwaukee has stagnated these past 50 years. Your solutions are dated and won’t work. We need transit, bike, and pedestrian infrastructure not billion dollar freeway expansions. Do not inflict upon us the mistakes of our grandfathers.
