I'm going to make a thread stating a few reasons why I'm Orthodox because I think the things that most root me in the faith are often understated.

@madlabrador_ St. Gregory Palamas said the Latins were being obedient to Satan in their addition of the Filioque which makes the occasion for many evils. So I don't think I'm misreading him. Also, Pope John Paul II called him a great theological writer and he's adorned here alongside Aquinas

@sovereignbrah For me, it's the whole parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18:23-35 Christ specifically likens it to the Kingdom of Heaven. The debt is *truly* forgiven. He then rescinds the forgiveness and reinstates the debt. He then concludes saying it can happen to us

Orthodox saint spends whole life revivifying monasticism, translating countless Patristic texts, translates the Philokalia... mentions Latin heresies "ohhh rent free! Is all you guys do criticize us??"

@benedictus The comments were taken from a few paragraphs out of the entirety of Volume I of his life. It's like no one can go through life without criticizing the pope one iota without it being considered "all they do" and "rent free"

@Sola_Requiem @thaddeusthought He revivified monasticism and translated countless works of the Fathers. "the only thing you saint do" is taken from 2 paragraphs in an entire volume of his life.

@Sola_Requiem There's like 2 paragraphs on it from Volume I of a multi-volume work on his life, and it's in the context of his monastery being taken over by Latins It's but a drop in the ocean of what he concerned himself with. Whatever you need to tell yourself though

I know @Craig_Truglia makes this point well. While a roadblock for many, anathemas are actually *indicative* of Church's candidacy for being true Even Bible Hub's topical treatment states essentially, "Yeah these were used in Scripture and the Early Church, but now not much"

St. Paisius was truly a rekindler of the light of eldership, a replenisher of the common life, a warrior for hesychasm, and a bridge to the Holy Fathers. Below is a partial list of the manuscripts translated from the hand of St. Paisius:
