Deep breath: our empathy for a woman murdered is entirely based on whether she is a "person like us", especially a young white woman living in the inner city. Her murder is horrific, but one day we'll have a vigil for an Indigenous woman killed in a country town.

Could i say, again, that the election was more proof that the ABC must return state-based current affairs - I know it's expensive and was cut for cost reasons - but we are a nation of states with very different perspectives. Local radio not enough. #auspol

Our democracy is corrupted by the Murdoch media. Doesn't mean there aren't good individuals working there - there are many - but they work for a propaganda organisation, seen nakedly during election campaigns. The good journalism is window dressing for a corrupt purpose.

This "controversy" over the ABC entirely driven by The Australian and IPA. Criticism of the ABC is fine and inevitable. But an agenda-driven, self-interested, unfair and ruthless campaign is not fine and must be so debilitating for ABC staff who just want to get on with the job.

Perhaps I am the only person in Australia who thought the #pell trial - whatever you think of the result - was the system working how it is intended to work. Some people seem to think a jury decision should never be appealed, but it can be, and in rare cases is overturned.

For goodness sake. I am a former member of The Age's independence committee. There is still a strong staff committee ensuring the charter of independence is upheld. It has been endorsed by the board and is supported by all the management. It is central to what we do.

Electorates that swung harder to the Liberal and National parties are more likely to have higher unemployment, lower income, and fewer migrants. Electorates that swung to Labor more likely to be higher educated, and fully engaged in work/study

This morning, thinking about people with relatives in aged care homes. They must be so worried, so fearful, so needing of basic information about how their mother/father is going. Equally, the workers in these places, totally on the front line, on crappy wages and at great risk.

@callapilla there are people on twitter who so loathe Morrison, he could come up with a cure and it wouldn't be enough. Hasn't been perfect by any means, and journalists need to scrutinise, but some of the criticism tedious, narky and overtly partisan IMO.
