We’re out of the EU.
On Monday I’ll preside over the lowering of the EU flag at the Civic Centre, Twickenham.
I’ll then replace it with the Flag of The Council of Europe which we co-founded in 1949.
The new flag looks like this
Monday 12.30pm. Do come!
My hat. Andrea Leadsom crowing about the Australian trade deal offering young people the right to live and work for THREE YEARS in Australia
She snatched away millions of young people’s rights to live and work INDEFINITELY in Twenty Seven Countries on our doorstep
#BBCAQ
Woof. Just heard that Royal Ascot will be closed to the public but they’re exploring ways to run the event behind closed doors
What don’t they get about limiting unnecessary travel? Do they think the horses, jockeys & trainers teleport?
Its a horse race
IT. IS. NOT. ESSENTIAL!
In Personal News
I am now the duly elected representative for the South West Constituency on the London Assembly
The first EVER Assembly Constituency for the Lib Dems
Thank you all those who voted for me
And thank you to all the candidates who fought a decent, fair election
I understand that this evening Lib Dem Cllr Laurence Nicholls has been elected as Leader of Spelthorne Council, the first time EVER it hasn’t been a Conservative at the helm in Spelthorne
Gisela Stuart who campaigned for Brexit alongside THAT bus is currently on

Utterly Shameless
Thrilled to announce that from THIS SATURDAY

will be reopening to pedestrians and cyclists
This has been a long old slog for residents and businesses and I’d like to thank them for their patience and perseverance

Quite rightly, the

have said Rishi Sunak should withhold

But surely
@ShaunBaileyUK
HIMSELF should refuse his peerage until its concluded

How about MPs who say they oppose Heathrow Expansion.
Then force a by-election because they say they oppose to Expansion
Then seek to be re-elected on a party ticket even though Expansion is Party Policy
Then accept a ministerial position in government that wants Expansion
Absolutely delighted to have been re-elected as Leader of the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames yesterday evening.
A genuine honour and a privilege.
Is Richmond the ONLY London borough to have a Leader who owns and uses a cargo bike? Quite possibly.
But to have a Leader and a Deputy Leader who BOTH own and use cargo bikes? Got to be unique, surely!
Prove me wrong!

Repellent as some of the Tory crony honours are, two things are certain
1) Moral outrage on Twitter won’t change a thing
2) Campaigning at the next election (whether national, local or regional) to get rid of the Tories will
So don’t just tweet, Do something
To those tweeting
#JohnsonOut
, can I respectfully suggest that you head over to

and campaign for Helen Morgan
@helenhalcrow
and the Lib Dems to deliver a blow to the Government this coming Thursday.
To anybody that needs to hear this…..
It REALLY isn’t enough to post a picture & name of a Tory MP saying they voted to dump raw sewage.
If you’re not already doing so you need to start delivering leaflets and knocking on doors in their constituency & campaign to kick them out
@carolvorders
No. That’s not the way, sorry.
The people knocking on doors are human beings. By all means encourage people to say ‘No thank you’, or ‘I won’t be voting Tory’, but don’t encourage people to be unpleasant to volunteers.
@GregHands
Oh dear. Your judgement has always been questionable, Greg. Anybody with an ounce of decency or self-respect would have told the PM that if 30P Lee was being appointed deputy, then he’d need to find a new Chair.
Tonight, for the first time in many months, we met as a council, foregoing the now standard online version simply to satisfy the demand of the Conservative Government who are still allowing virtual meetings for MPs
How future meetings can be held in this format beggars belief.
Well I didn’t see this when it was broadcast, in fact the only reason I have seen it is because 30p Lee shared it on his Twitterfeed
Well said Mr Neville!
(And Lee has a Banned List! What a silly little man)
Another party political broadcast by a millionaire. Looks like ITV is on my banned list now. Talk about football Gary and keep your nose out of politics. You don't know what you're talking about.

I agree. So if you’ve disgusted by the PM’s law breaking and the Tory attempts to cover it up, send them a message on 5th May
A positive tidal wave of love and sorrow as well over a thousand people have gathered in

to pay their respects to Reece Newcombe, who was so tragically killed in Richmond last weekend. RIP
People ask me ‘Isn’t this voluntary isolation thing going to be awfully dull?”
I say “No! Not at all!”
For example, I’m just tidying the wires behind the television AND labelling the plugs so I know what’s what for future reference.
Dull? I don’t know the meaning of the word.
Marvelling at this.
A special program on television about Les Dawson this evening but 30p Lee is ‘not sure he would be allowed on the TV nowadays’…. even though there’s a special on the television tonight.
This man is allowed to vote on laws.
Lovely Les. I see a tribute to Les is on the box tonight. Not sure he would be allowed on the TV nowadays. Fairly sure he would send the left into meltdown with his jokes. Me? Accuse me of being stuck in the 70s but I think he was hilarious.
The money wasted by these councils lining the pockets of lawyers could have been spent on establishing funds to support residents facing the impact of ULEZ - like we’ve done in Richmond Upon Thames
I like Kate Howard (Former Tory Councillor) but hearing her speak to
@mrjamesob
on
@lbc
about how the Tories have ‘always been on the side of the poor’ does make me wonder why she voted as a councillor to scrap 100% Council Tax Relief and make those on benefits pay a contribution
Congratulations to
@NJROnline
on his win in the SW Constituency.
And massive thanks to allthose brilliant
@LondonLibDems
who campaigned for me to get the astonishing result - moving from third place to second and doubling the number of votes cast in 2016 - 30K to £61K
One MONTH to the day since he learned he’d lost his seat, the former MP who railed against ‘unelected’ power in Brussels and beefed on about respecting the will of the people greases his way into an unelected post and gives two fingers to the will of the people. Ain’t life grand!
Delighted and honoured to have been re-elected as The Leader of the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames council yesterday evening at our council AGM.
It really is the biggest privilege to be entrusted, by the voters and by my peers, with this wonderful job.
In what will come as a shock to many who, with justification, regard me as the Peter Pan of Local Politics, it’s a certain special day!
Unfortunately lockdown rules prevent the ticker tape parade through the borough which I’m sure would have been organised to mark the occasion
Just been denounced as ‘woke’ on Twitter.
Tsk! Being ‘Woke’ is SO last week, being part of the Anti-Growth Coalition is where all the cool kids are these days
Many newbie MPs probably would have let this slide until after Christmas was out of the way.
Top marks to Munira for ensuring those who need help from their MP were able to get help from their MP
Held my first constituency surgery this morning as MP for
#Twickenham
. More scheduled for January - if you would like to book an appointment, please contact my office on 020 8977 0606.
Just been down to St Mary’s School, Hampton at the invitation of the Head and Governors to view drop off.
Genuinely shocked how a school with such a small catchment area STILL has parents driving right up to the school gates to drop off kids putting other children in danger.
Following a long, drawn-out process the Planning Inspector has found in the council's favour and has awarded us legal powers to acquire Diamond Jubilee Gardens so we can Get Twickenham Riverside Done
That would be the 50s where we still had rationing, a policy decided by the Government and Prime Minister. And National Service, again a policy decided by the Government & The Prime Minister. Oh and ID cards, a policy endorsed by ….. well you get the idea with that
How is it that people are happy enough to drive all the way to McDonalds, buy their takeaway and then drive it back down to
#Hampton
Green and yet they’re too bloody bone idle or too bone headed to recognise the bin is full and take their rubbish home?
@LBRuT_Help
Delighted to have been re-elected by
@LibDems
councillors to be the lead Lib Dem voice for Cities & Urban Areas at the Local Govt Association
And congratulations to
@cllrmikeross
who has also been elected. He's an invaluable support on this important board
@libdemlocalgov
Whereas when Lib Dems are in power they're on the side of pedestrians, cyclists, residents, business owners, the hospitality industry and yes, also drivers
#ChurchStreetTwickenham
EVENING!
I know people are keen to know the result of the South West London Assembly Vote and, to be frank, so am I!
But though we’ve done verification today, the actual count ain’t until tomorrow
So as soon as I know, you’ll know too
I see the Runnymede Councillor who has been chosen by the Tories to fight the next General Election is now styling himself as ‘Shadow MP’.
On that basis I’m now styling myself as a ‘Shadow Brad Pitt’ and will be making myself available for leading roles and autograph signings
Over in ‘Shaky Ground Corner’, we find Ian Duncan Smith claiming its OK to actively commit vandalism and break the law if you think a body of Government has been lying to you…..
Rather enjoying the 4th placed London Greens ludicrous claim that they came joint 3rd in the Mayoral race because the margin between Rob Blackie and Zoe Garbutt was so narrow.
Looking forward to the 4th place finishers at the Paris Olympics claiming dibs on the Bronze medals!
As an aside, the Tories made a review of 20MPH limits central to their campaign in Richmond at the 2022 elections
They were annihilated
Wiped of the electoral map except for a single councillor who only survived because an independent split the vote and let him cling on
Just saw this on
#Hampton
Facebook
I know there are strong views on ULEZ and people are playing their games with the mobile vans - but this is just vandalism and in the long run we’ll all end up having to fork out for the actions of those responsible
Good news today for Richmond
Covid19 cases are now 83 per 100,000 over the last 7 days
And that’s significantly below the London average of 141.9/100,000
As we’re about to move out of lockdown into Tier 2 it’s essential we don’t slip back into higher numbers
@LBRUT
But he hasn’t quit
He’s still an Assembly Member, He’s still a member of the Police & Crime Committee.
All he’s done is stood down as Chair of the Police & Crime Committee
If catching up with another family in a local park, or friends for a take-out drink from a nearby pub, here's a Covid19 statistic for you
From March 2020 there've been 5546 cases of Covid19 in Richmond Borough
NEARLY ONE FIFTH (977) of those were reported IN THE LAST WEEK ALONE
NEWFLASH: Following the

failure to agree

– we have just announced that we will fund a voucher scheme! Updates on eligibility to follow!
Disappointing that
@LondonLibDems

@BBCLondonNews
Mayoral Debate
Surely it’s at the beginning of the campaign that a plurality of voices should be heard.
Only Labour & Tory reinforces the false narrative that it’s a two horse race
I'm delighted to announce that, as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a better scheme for
#TwickenhamRiverside
, the planning application for the previous scheme has been withdrawn.
The first rule of

Really? So the onus in on, for example, a blind or partially sighted pedestrian, or a parent with a buggy and a toddler to get safely to the other side of the road to use the pavement rather than expecting assistance from the police to crack down on pavement blocking?
@standardnews
The engineers of the 18th Centuries would have sorted the Bridge's problems out and had it fully in use by now. Makes you think how far we have really progressed
Hey
@theroyalparks
these idiots are trying to pet and feed the deer in Bushy Park by the Cricket Pitch. They are even getting their kids to stand next to them. Can u get a ranger over to move them away before someone gets hurt!
What cobblers. Last night’s council saw the Lib Dem administration fighting to protect free travel for the Under 18s and remove the restrictions on the Older Persons Freedom Pass.
Tories could have abstained. Instead they voted against. You should be ashamed
Last night’s full council meeting saw the Lib Dem administration put forward a motion that could increase the pressure on public transport potentially increasing the risk for key workers who are dependent on public transport in London 😲🚉
@LBRUT
Less than a mile and still the only option is to drive
Not to use a cargo bike
Not to use a shopping trolley
Not to consider buying less and making more trips (we’re talking less than a mile)
Nope. Jump in the car is the ONLY option. Really rather sad.
@SimonZev
@SamF_H
We don't/can't all cycle or walk. I can nip to my supermarket to buy food, less than a mile. I couldn't lift it all home or waste the time walking there and back. Get real some of you. Walking and cycling has its place but not for everyone.
I note the Prime Minister is 'Confident' that we will prosper without an EU Trade Deal
I also note that in March 2020 the Prime Minister was 'Confident' the UK could turn the tide on Coronavirus within 12 weeks.
The Former Tory Leader of the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames and latterly one of those who’ve fought hardest in the House of Lords to remove the Freedom of Movement which he and his family have so thoroughly enjoyed over many, many years.
One rule for him......
A very pleasant evening with
@MichaelButlin
and
@Benkhosa2
putting up stakeboards in what people wrongly assume to be traditional Labour territory in Hounslow
Voters of all persuasions are lending me,

and

their vote to vote for change on May 6th
The Brexit Dividend. Higher prices, less choice, more red tape
And all for fish we largely don't eat, blue passports we could have had if we'd asked to have them and a national sovereignty which we already possessed.
Ain't life grand
As we're on the subject of Oleg Deripaska's 100 room mansion it is a perfect example of why council tax is a completely broken system and needs reform
Oleg Deripaska paid LESS borough levied council tax on his Westminster MANSION than somebody living in a BAND A FLAT in Richmond
@halfon4harlowMP
Just a week or so ago you were retweeting the Prime Minister’s message, Mr Halfon
The bit in the red box I’ve added is important here.
“If you or anyone in your household has symptoms you all need to self-isolate”
And to be frank, if they were well enough to drive......
Now deleted with neither acknowledgement of offence caused, nor apology for the same
@Councillorsuzie
should apologise and offer her resignation as Leader of the Conservatives on the London Assembly
@GLAConservative
BBC must investigate how so many EU flags were waved & on display at The Last Night of the Proms. Disgraceful & misguided BBC messing up a British tradition; a political gesture which would make Sir Henry Wood turn in his grave. Utterly vulgar & wrong.
Rule Britannia, not Rule
This is part of exactly the same weather system that bought the torrential downpours in London on Monday.
I know there are those who disagree with some of our climate emergency policies in Richmond but last Monday we dodged a bullet. Next time this could be the UK
And the readiness of a multi-millionaire peer to launch a greasy defence of his patron’s inner circle breaking those rules that we little people are supposed to stick to is equally, if not more, noteworthy.
Lee Anderson’s comments about Islam and Sadiq Khan are repellent and have been rightly condemned from politicians and commentators across the political spectrum.
There’s no room for hate speech in politics and he should have the whip removed immediately.
Prosperity Cafe are doing a great job, taking donations for those enduring or fleeing violence in Ukraine🇺🇦
People are being INCREDIBLY generous
Today I visited & and have offered use of one of our largest meeting rooms at York House as overspill storage should they need it
Polls are OPEN!
Remember, the ONLY party who can beat the Tories at ward or council level in Richmond are the Lib Dems.
A Labour vote will let the Tories in by the back door
#VoteLibDemTODAY
The usual boring people will say 'THINGS THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN'
But today, about 3pm, approaching Station Road, Hampton a man stopped me
'You're with the council, yes?
'Yes, hello!'
'Just wanted to say, you do a great job. Seen your newsletters. Keep it up'
Which was a nice thing
