Although I’m far from doing any 🚀-science,this is exactly the message my students need to hear every once in a while.I know we are selecting on the dependent variable but if you want my honest opinion, I believe curiosity & perseverance can take you far, in academia & elsewhere.

Got a 2.4 GPA my first semester in college. Thought maybe I wasn’t cut out for engineering. Today I’ve landed two spacecraft on Mars, and am now designing one for the Moon. STEM is hard for everyone. Grades ultimately aren’t what matter. Curiosity and perseverance matter.

… by partners/families or taking on unreasonable hours of teaching, all for uncertain outcomes. And it’s 1st gen/women/PoC & people without family wealth most likely to leave. It’s an incredible waste of talent. If we want a world-class sector, we should consider paying for it.

I think this isn't said enough on this website, but the modal review is critical, but thoughtful and makes valid points. In our cases, valid points relating to statistical power, non-compliance, alternative interpretations of findings and excludability.(6)

I spent a couple of beautiful months in Kyiv last year, genuinely one of the most breathtaking & interesting European cities. It pains me to read the news these days. Thoughts are with Ukrainians who've been facing Putin's aggression & now again the spectre of escalating war.🇺🇦

Happy to see this paper out @ElectoralStdies ! @GioNeu and I randomly assigned members and supporters of a Swiss political party to receive phone calls from party HQ. We find null effects of these phone calls on self-reported party activism & engagement in the election campaign.🧵

This is correct. Having done two years of research on voter registration in the UK, I am convinced that registration should be automated; this bill will likely exacerbate already existing inequalities in turnout. It has partisan implications.

Voter ID would lead to the disenfranchisement of millions, even if local authorities provide ID for free. It’s an authoritarian solution to a non-existent problem, there was only one conviction for voter impersonation in 2019

Increasing the barriers to voting for the most marginalised (there are millions of Brits without a passport) addresses an imaginary problem & biases the playing field in favour of the Tories since those affected will be predominantly young, BAME & poor:

Baerbock’s speech didn’t get much attention, but it’s very good. Acknowledges the u-turn in German foreign and defence policy for what it is and justifies it well. Speaks to the humanitarian dimension of war and directly to the generation of Germans who grew up in the 90s & 00s.
