With great sadness we confirm that Mieczysław Frąckiewicz, aircrew of 304 Squadron has died today at the age of 104.
Our thoughts are with his friends & family at this time.
Its believed he was the last living Polish aircrew member in the U.K. from the Second World War

80 years ago 50 Airmen were murdered by the German Gestapo after escaping Stalag Luft 3. Six of them were Polish.
On Saturday
@edencamp
remembered those by building a replica tunnel.
Our own Andy Dziegiel, whose father was in Stalag Luft 3, travelled the tunnel.

76 Allied Aircrews Escaped the Stalagluft III camp located in Żagań in occupied Poland.
50 were later captured and murdered by the Germans.

We met 9 year old Zak today who was visiting
@IWMDuxford
with his Mum. They came from Ukraine as a result of the war. Zak has learned English & proceeded to explain to me how the Second World War started.
He knew that it was a ‘Polish Hurricane’ so a cockpit tour he got. 🇬🇧🇵🇱🇺🇦

We were honoured to spend time with the Polish Community to remember. All Saint's Day is a time to remember, particularly those who were lost during the Second World War.. Lista Krzystka kindly provided poppies for us to place at every airman's grave.

Michal Brzezowski was the youngest Polish pilot fighting in the Battle of Britain. On 15th September he was in combat with ME109s near Gravesend in Hurricane P3577 and crashed into the sea. At the time of his death he was 20 years of age.
