The first guy is right, but probably for the wrong reasons. Democracy is just bread and circuses for the masses to give them an illusion of power while the government continues to oppress and abuse them. Free markets, free capitalism, and a free stateless society is the ideal.

Since when is unquestioning and indefinite compliance with abnormal dictates on what people can do from the government a societal norm?
Even in emergency situations it is not typical or reasonable for restraints to last a full year or more and still expect compliance.

Being accused and guilty are two different things. Only the accused are offered bail, and they’re (supposed to be) still innocent in the eyes of the law.
Holding people who can’t post bail in custody is punishing them for being poor, not for being a criminal.
