I think this is more of a problem with FRIENDS than with the generation. Marketed itself as this cute feel-good show that is actually very nasty at its core whereas stuff like Seinfeld which is way more offensive is still popular and hilarious because it never acted like it wasnt

That's one of the reasons why SM2 is the best one. From the get go, it's established that Otto is just a guy who loves his wife and wants to help mankind, which makes his spiral into evil so compelling compared to Norman from SM1 who was already awful before becoming the Goblin.
