I pray one day medicine culture changes from academic hazing mindset to a true wellness mindset.
Nakita was a classmate of mine, and an inspiration to all those who knew and worked with her.
She deserved better, and was working to improve the lives of all residents and trainees.
RIP Dr. Nakita Mortimer.

I hope this interview cycle, individuals feel comfortable wearing their natural hair!
If the program doesn’t accept you for your natural hair then they aren’t the one.
It’s been < 2 months at my residency program I have changed my hair 3x no issues, just praises. 👩🏾⚕️💁🏾♀️

I'm one step closer to having a major medical association recognize natural hair discrimination among children and I'm almost in tears!
This has been such a journey can not wait until more medical associations recognize this issue!

Was the most racist experience in my life. Being called the N-word by an older white person hits differently.
I was unable to find the words to tell my preceptor this.

Usually I don’t respond to things like this but I need to say something on this…. affirmative action benefits white women. Being white from Rural America does not mean you are underrepresented ⬇️
I looked up what the NIH defines as an underrepresented population for purposes of diversity and inclusion and I was shocked to find out that I qualified.
The reason? I grew up in rural America.

1. How far are you willing to live without your partner or family ?
For me I ended up living 40-45 mins from my partner and family. And its super hard. I'm blessed with being able to see them on days off, but still difficult.
