The order is unclear as to whether it intends to cover access to Treasury systems by Secretary Bessent himself, but the Secretary is not a data scientist, even if he can access the systems it’s not the best use of his time. He should be able to delegate to other government employees whether or not they work for a different agency.

From looking at the BAP post and comments, my impression is they’re criticizing the US State Dept’s support for nationalists in Africa fighting to end European colonialism, who in power became leftist authoritarians. But in the same period the US also supported right-wing military governments in Latin America. Life is complicated.

I thought one of the points of giving young talented people important roles was to recognize they are adults, not kids. It’s fine to hire people with controversial views, whether or not they have changed those views, but these young men should be just as ready to deal with strong criticism on the Internet as Ro Khanna can deal with you calling him disgusting.
