Low color is quickly expanding throughout the country this week! Isolated pockets of high color can be found in the Intermountain West, and much of the Eastern US is seeing color earlier than normal.

Much of northern Alaska is now past peak, with vibrant displays ongoing throughout much of the interior. We'll start reporting on the Lower 48 next week, so stay tuned!

We're entering the final stretch of our fall foliage reporting as color is quickly progressing into lower elevations and more southerly locations 🍁
Where will fall foliage be in a week's time?
We expect pockets of near peak color in the White Mountains of NH, with more widespread moderate color throughout interior New England. Additionally, Aspens should begin to peak in portions of the West.

We have been devastated by flooding in Western North Carolina. With no power, water, and cell service only accessible in town, our services will be suspended for a period of time.

The leaves are changing quickly across the southern tier of the United States, with reports of peak color as far south as Alabama 🍁

2) Dry leaves begin to fall
If you see either of these, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll have an early fall. It's simply a response to summer's heat and dry soil!

Fall Color Update
Peak color is spreading throughout the Brooks Range, producing a fiery red landscape! Meanwhile, low color progresses steadily south, with high color observed in the mountains north of Fairbanks.
The bout of cool weather in mid-September has moderated throughout the East, but what impact will this have on fall foliage timing?
In short, locations that have already reached moderate color are likely to continue at their current rate of change. This means peak color begins

Fall foliage is cranking in the maple forests of northern Minnesota 🍁
Forest type data does not resolve the maple trees in this area, so we will add a fudge factor to account for this change!

Lots of unbelievers in these comments! The North Shore's maple forests often peak in mid-September, so this is right on schedule.

We've reached peak fall color across much of the Rockies, and are quickly approaching peak color in New England. Enjoy the leaf peeping 🍁

We've been bullish on the Upper Midwest since day one, so this is excellent verification of our interactive map and fall foliage model.
We are taking the first steps towards a return to normal operations.
KMLs are available in their usual locations, but please bear with us as we have not been able to complete accuracy checks.

We've tweaked a few pixels in the Balsam Mountains of North Carolina to represent the early season color that occurs there each year.
Elevations above 5000' are currently in moderate color. You'll want to check the forecast on our website to see when peak will arrive! 🍂

The tundra of Alaska's North Slope is less than a month away from the climatological onset of low color. Fall 2024 is just around the corner!
Our fall foliage model has been offline this weekend for one last tune-up before peak season begins!

Remarkably, some isolated locations in Minnesota are already showing substantial fall color 🍁
These small areas consistently peak two to three weeks prior to the surrounding area year after year. This will be featured in an upcoming blog post on Freak Fall Foliage!
