Just two weeks ago, I tweeted about an idea that crossed my mind and it sparked an avalanche of following in the African web3 ecosystem. The idea was to host a Meetup inviting Africans who made it to DevCon7 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meetup was to serve three purposes: 📌 To serve as a Nigerian homecoming event for the Nigerians who represented Africa in Bangkok, Thailand. 📌 To create a conducive environment for knowledge sharing and networking amongst those who made it to DevCon7 and those who didn't. 📌 Expose the public to the invaluable resources and materials @EFDevcon provides. The tweet went viral in the African web3 space as it was retweeted over 43 times with lots of comments and DMs from all over Africa and Thailand. Two days after my initial tweet, we announced that we would be hosting a Lagos DevCon Meetup to host those who attended DevCon7 in Bangkok, Thailand, and ten days later, that tweet became a reality as we hosted one of the finest and coolest organic web3 community-driven event in Nigeria, The event had several attendees of DevCon7 on site who shared their experiences and insights from Devcon: 🏓 @Divine_Vessel from @EthereumNigeria , 🏓 @davidpius10 from @GuildAudits @Nodebridgeafric 🏓 @DMitong from @EthJos_ where physically in attendance We had other prominent voices from the African web3 ecosystem in attendance and they included: @njokuScript @_jboflagos @SenatorIhenyen @__iamcharis @kokocodes @aguboss_ @0x1_Tee @starryeyed_soul @emmaglorypraise @codingcas @SerahOluwatosin @Ajao @awinrin @Lunchmancreates to mention a few. The Lagos Devcon Meetup inspired others from other parts of Africa including Ghana and other states in Nigeria like Jos and Enugu which will be having their own Devcon event on the 30th of November 2024🔥 💪 LFG. I would say the @LagosDevcon Meetup highlights the power of community initiatives sparked by innovative ideas. What started as a simple tweet transformed into a vibrant gathering, uniting passionate individuals from across Africa to share knowledge and experiences. This event not only celebrated our representatives at DevCon7 but also inspired similar initiatives in other regions, proving that Great Things Can Start Small. Let’s continue to innovate and uplift one another—together, we can build a stronger web3 ecosystem in Africa. The future is bright when we harness the collective strength of our communities. Cheers to a greater future in web3🥂
