Selton Miguel grew up in three continents & is at his third college.
A winding journey led him to Maryland after the best year of his career. It's all come full circle — and those who know him most are unsurprised.
“People like that always get rewarded.”
Kevin Willard was mic'd up during the U-12 media TO on BTN:
"Right now what you're doing is you're giving it to the white team and they're scoring... everybody look down. You're wearing black. Pass to the black team."
Willard on this play:
"I'm going to call the head of refs tomorrow... it really should have been an and-one, that got overturned, and then he got a call for an offensive foul on a bucket so it was really five points that we got taken away"
HUGE news for
@TerpsGymnastics
, announcing that senior Alexsis Rubio will return for a fifth season using her extra year of COVID eligibility.
Rubio competed in every meet last season on vault and floor.
She’s been the Terps’ top vault scorer in each of the last 3 seasons.
Being an ETHS sports enthusiast, I've been spoiled with great basketball. Both the boys and girls games tonight will be ones I remember watching for years. Have to give a TREMENDOUS amount of props to
@ETHSports
for putting on such an incredible event.
JUST IN:
All-American defender and Rutgers grad transfer Meghan Ball has verbally committed to Maryland women's lacrosse, per a team source. Ball is the reigning Big Ten Defender of the Year and is set to lead the Terps' defense when she arrives in College Park.
Big news for Maryland women’s lacrosse: Shaylan Ahearn, Brianna Lamoureux, Hannah Leubecker, Libby May & Emily Sterling all plan to use their extra year of eligibility to return to College Park as fifth-years next season.

Midfielder Kori Edmondson was a crucial piece for Maryland women’s lacrosse in her freshman campaign.
The McDonogh product was the
#1
recruit in 2022 — but her stardom in a Terps jersey seemed inevitable well before she even reached high school.

Audrey Barber scored 9.850 on a Yurchenko 1.5 on vault, upgrading from a full.
She proceeded to set her All-Around PR.
Adding that routine to her repertoire in her fifth year is IMPRESSIVE
The Terps are wearing tape with "Ish" written in honor of Eloise Clevenger's mom, Elizabeth "Ish" Clevenger, who passed away on Sunday after battling cancer.
Eloise will play in tonight's game against Penn State, per team spokesperson.
Super excited to share my first byline for
@thedbk
working on the
@DBKSports
team to preview Maryland’s men’s and women’s bball teams.
My words on
@TerrapinHoops
’ transfers where I spotlight presumptive starting PG, and C Fatts Russell and Qudus Wahab:
⬇️
Seen many tweets about Katie Meyer saying ‘check in on your loved ones,’ and other messages about mental health.
There’s been no released cause of death.
Insinuating that based off an assumption isn’t right. Not for her, her family, or anyone who has connection to suicide.
Ian Martinez has 11 points nine minutes into Utah State's meeting with Purdue. He scored a game-high 21 in the first round against TCU.
He looked promising last year for Maryland after a rough first year with the Terps, but looks like a completely new player now.
Maryland lands Mizzou transfer Victoria Gatzendorfer. As a freshman last year, Gatzendorfer competed 4 times on beam and twice on bars. She went 9.8+ in 4 of her 6 routines, with highs of 9.875 on beam and 9.850 on bars.
@DBKSports
As someone who’s had Type 1 Diabetes for 13 years, when my blood sugar gets low, I haven’t had the side effect of being a racist piece of shit, like jackass announcer Matt Rowan— Typically, instead of saying racial slurs, I’ll ask someone for some gummy bears.
Big news for Maryland.
It's been quite the week for Kevin Willard, as Virginia Tech transfer Rodney Rice committed on Sunday and Julian Reese announced he’ll return earlier today.
The Terps follow that up by adding Gillespie, one of the top players in the portal.
Gary Williams and members of Maryland's 1984 team spoke to the media on Saturday and had plenty to say about Lefty Driesell.
On favorite Lefty memories, the program's elevation, his desire to beat UNC, his recruiting charm, and that southern drawl:
Jahmir Young has had one of the best individual years in program history.
But Maryland has failed to capitalize off of it in a season that's gone awry, tarnishing a historic campaign.
Story on Young's season + legacy with words from him & Kevin Willard.
Julian Reese battled the mental and physical challenges of a slump and injury last season — but just as he did when he decided not to leave Maryland after a tumultuous freshman year, Reese stayed the course.
Both Reese and Maryland reap the benefits.

Kevin Willard didn't temper expectations for his freshmen.
While DeShawn Harris-Smith and Jamie Kaiser Jr. have become strong defenders, offensive struggles have persisted.
That wasn't the case on Saturday, and it led to a bright moment amid a tough year.
Two weeks ago, ETHS played the 11th annual Bost Family Classic — and for the first time in 7 years, no Bost's played in it
But through triumph, tragedy & 3 generations, they made their mark — not just at Beardsley Gym — but on the whole Evanston community.
This becoming normalized is so important. Not just for athletes, but also for young fans. Lots of kids view their favorite players as superheroes/above humans. Hopefully, when players do this, their young fans grow more conscious of mental health + fight the stigma.

Kevin Willard on what it’ll take for Maryland’s three-point shooting to improve:
“I mean I went to church, so I’ll see if that helps.”
Led to a few laughs before he talked about the types of threes his team is taking & how the % can increase as freshman grow more comfortable.
.
@TerpsGymnastics
ended their regular season in style. Full recap from today's meet with words from head coach Brett Nelligan, Emma Silberman and Audrey Barber.
Kevin Willard's first transfer haul at Maryland allowed him to find immediate success.
Last year's transfer class forced him to over-rely on freshmen and didn't fix a clear need for shooting.
This cycle could define the Terps' season and trajectory.

With both off the court (82 mins), Maryland's defensive rating is 103.5 (66th percentile)
Kevin Willard didn't temper expectations for his freshmen.
While DeShawn Harris-Smith and Jamie Kaiser Jr. have become strong defenders, offensive struggles have persisted.
That wasn't the case on Saturday, and it led to a bright moment amid a tough year.
No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse had the second-best scoring defense last season. And on paper, the 2023 defensive unit looks to be even stronger. Leading them will be a pair of grad students originally from the Ivy League, Abby Bosco and Marge Donovan.
30 minutes away from first pitch as Maryland softball takes on No. 21 Michigan. Terps won last nights series opener, and a win tonight would make a program-record four straight series wins. I’m filling in for

IMO the biggest surprise watching Derik Queen so far has been how he's hedged p&r's.
Quickness is obviously the biggest concern defensively but it's possible his combo of size, instincts & hands can mitigate that to a degree. Seems like it has tonight.
Kevin Willard:
"Understanding the way I built the roster a little bit, I put a lot of pressure on these young kids to be honest with you. That's the one thing I wish I could have redone is maybe get someone to not put so much pressure on [Harris-Smith and Kaiser]."
Maryland adds another defender via the transfer portal. Halus was a full-time starter for Colorado throughout her two years there. She tallied 23 ground balls + 22 caused turnovers for the Buffaloes last season.
.
@TerpsGymnastics

Would be a huge addition for Kevin Willard and the Terps, who need a PG badly.
Extremely efficient scoring numbers and was an All-MVC second team and defensive team selection.
A few MVC transfers (Marcus Domask, Rienk Mast, Lance Jones) did very well in the Big Ten this year.

Story:
Young on the positives for Maryland:

Maryland men's basketball tips off vs. Nebraska in 20 minutes.

Kevin Willard said he isn't thinking about his team trying to build a resume for March — but that resume was desperately lacking a significant win, and Maryland got one today.
Story on the Terps' 76-67 win at No. 10 Illinois:
Basketball. Is. Back.

I’ll have move updates throughout the night and

Julian Reese was one of 20 players named to the preseason watch list for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.
Reese averaged 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting 63.2% from the field in his breakout season for Maryland last year.
Jordan Geronimo's first four games as a Terp were far from ideal.
But as the Indiana transfer's comfort level in a new system has grown, so has his production.
On Geronimo, whose best two games at Maryland have been his last two:
Maryland is certainly in need of a point guard with Jahmir Young out of eligibility.
McDaniel is from the DMV and was teammates with DeShawn Harris-Smith at PVI.
Maryland men's basketball tips off at Illinois in about an hour.

Maryland women's lacrosse loses a heartbreaker to James Madison, 15-14. The Dukes scored five unanswered goals in a comeback win, ending the Terps' season.
Maryland's Emily Sterling and Shaylan Ahearn won Big Ten Goaltender and Midfielder of the Year respectively, the Big Ten announced.
Sterling leads the conference in saves (172) and save percentage (.481)
Ahearn leads in draw controls (131) and draws p/g (6.55) and added 35 points

Brett Nelligan and the

Below are my thoughts on the biggest storyline, all-decade teams and more, side-by-side with theirs.
Jahmir Young was one of 20 players named to the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy award, given to the best point guard in the NCAA.
Young averaged 15.8 pts, 4.6 reb and 3.1 ast last year, and Kevin Willard said he’s the vet he thinks will take the biggest jump for Maryland.
I’m at Wrigley for the first time in over a year and was reminded that a water bottles are 5 bucks... And you’re telling me we can’t afford to extend Rizzo? Foh!

DeShawn Harris-Smith scores his first college bucket off of a put-back. Jahmir Young forces a steal and scores a fast-break dunk on the next possession.
Maryland 18, Mount St. Mary's 14 | 1H 7:17
Maryland's Big Ten quarterfinal matchup will be at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday at SECU Stadium. The Terps host Ohio State, who they topped 18-7 at SECU on April 8. The Buckeyes were winless in Big Ten play this year.
Kevin Willard on Mike Jones becoming HC at ODU (1/2):
We're ecstatic for Mike, we really are. It's a great opportunity to go back to his alma mater, a place where he played and had a lot of success. Mike's a terrific person, he's a great coach, he's going to do a fantastic job.
Also want to note that yesterday appeared to be the biggest crowd for
@TerpsGymnastics
I’ve seen this year. There was an autograph/meet and greet session where the GymTerps met some of their biggest and youngest fans, and the line was LONG.
.
@TerpsGymnastics
' last few weeks:
- In 13 days, NQS has improved by .855
- In that span, they jump from No. 33 to 21 – finishing there would = highest rank since 2001
- Single-meet vault record tied, bars broken in b2b meets
- 3 of top 6 all-time scores are from the past month.
Maryland men’s basketball’s last two losses were decided by one score where Jahmir Young had a chance to tie or win both games with the ball in his hands.
Young had the ball again in Maryland’s last possession at Iowa — this time, though, he converted.
.
@TerpsGymnastics
star Audrey Barber became the programs all-time scoring leader on Sunday.

Emily Sterling’s monstrous week earns her Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. The reigning Goalkeeper of the Year tallied 24 saves and allowed just 12 goals in two games last week.
Jordan Geronimo has 9 points and is 4-for-4 from the field midway through the first half... which means I'm forced to make a shameless plug to my story from this morning!
Jordan Geronimo's first four games as a Terp were far from ideal.
But as the Indiana transfer's comfort level in a new system has grown, so has his production.
On Geronimo, whose best two games at Maryland have been his last two:
Just about 10 minutes away from
@TerpsGymnastics
’ quad meet against NC State, William & Mary and Yale. Maryland is coming off of its second-highest score of the season.
Oh, and Audrey Barber is one routine away from becoming the programs all-time scoring leader. No biggie…
Story is updated with words from Cathy Reese, Chrissy Thomas and Shaylan Ahearn.
Read about what Reese called the best half they've played all year, what went into Thomas' career day & why the Terps think the Northwestern rematch on Saturday may look a little different.
Maryland guard Jahari Long, who's listed as questionable on the Big Ten's availability report, is warming up with the Terps.
Long has missed Maryland's last two games with injury.
The Terps had the 2nd-best scoring defense in the NCAA last year and added Princeton grad transfer Marge Donovan. Inside Lacrosse ranked Donovan as the 13th-best player in the country. Fellow defender Abby Bosco was ranked 3rd, and goalie Emily Sterling was ranked 7th.
Maryland and Davidson were tied at 61 apiece with 37.8 seconds remaining.
But even with such little time on the clock, the biggest difference among the teams became costly for Maryland.
Both fired off a three — the Wildcats' fell and the Terps' didn't.
.
@TerpsGymnastics
jumped from No. 33 to 28 in the nation following their scores of 196.550 and 197.100 this weekend. Their vault and bars groups are both top 20.
@DBKSports
FINAL: Maryland 78, Iowa 66
The Terps closed the game on a 34-12 run to snap their three-game losing streak.
Jahmir Young scored a game-high 21 points, DeShawn Harris-Smith notched a career-high 16, and Julian Reese tallied a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double.
Reese said she didn't have any specifics on All-American defender Marge Donovan's injury, but was told 'things look good.' Donovan went down with what looked like an ankle injury. She walked off the field with some help & returned to the sideline from the locker room with a boot.
Super excited to get started!! I’ve had great experiences with everyone in my short time with the team, and can’t wait to get to College Park and get to work!!
