I once gave a AAA game a 6 on GameSpot. Publisher had a big advertising package planned, which was quietly moved to a sister site. I didn’t hear about it until much later.
I still occasionally have people tell me that game critics are paid by publishers for good reviews, and it's just like...do you know how huge it'd be to break that story? To be the site that reveals the cash payouts everyone is taking? And NO ONE has spilled the beans!??
