#Ohio
! It's not too early to start planning! Invite your out-of-town friends and family!
@TomHorsman
When the river reservoirs of the west dry up for good, the 6 QUADRILLION gallons of Great Lakes fresh water will be the place to be. Time is on our side.
This image was made from a photo at 3:13PM on April 8, 2023, showing the exact position of the Sun at that date and time. This is the expected view of the Terminal Tower

@CLEPublicSquare
during TOTALITY of the

on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Local cityscape photographer Matt Sexton captured this wonderful image of the
#EclipseOverCleveland
. My logo was always idealized, would never represent an actual view, but Matt captured the closest thing. You can support his work by ordering a print =>
Finally found
@ClevelandMag
at
@Drug_Mart
. What a beautifully designed magazine, so much nicer than just looking at some web page. Lots of great content in addition to Annie
@Nickoloffoff
's wonderful story, and a terrific eclipse editorial by
@DillStew
. Well worth 6 bucks!
@clevelanddotcom
Pretty astounding that you can't take a train from Cleveland to Columbus, especially since that line was the first railroad built in this town way back when.
Some people wonder why there are not eclipses every month. There are only certain months of the year when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned so that the shadows produce eclipses. In the other months, the shadows are not aligned and there are no eclipses.
@Jason_R_Burt
Don't forget that the Gunny earned that Medal of Honor for being the hero of Guadalcanal. His story was wonderfully depicted in "The Pacific" mini-series produced by Tom Hanks.
@ImFromCle
@TravelLeisure
People who have never been to Cleveland scoff but I have never met anyone who has been here who didn't like their visit here.
PROMINENCE!!! That red jewel at 7 o'clock on the Sun was a PROMINENCE, an eruption from the Sun. WOW, WAS THAT BIG!!! Here's the slide from the "Eclipse Experience" video, more to come.
I don't know how tricky you can get with the
@TowerLightsCLE
but this is one lighting scheme that could celebrate the
#EclipseOverCleveland
coming on Monday, April 8, 2024!
Awesome views from the Detroit-Superior Bridge subway deck, which was open today for the first time since 2019. Thank you
@chrisronayne
for your efforts to open up this wonderful local attraction permanently!
How long ago was New Years Eve? Not long, right? That's how long in the future until the
#EclipseOverCleveland
! Only 7 weeks, friends! Better make your advance eclipse plans NOW or forever hold your peace.
LAST CHANCE! The forecast is favorable! The rain has moved off! Clear skies are moving in! Don't be a weather pessimist! Don't be a drag! No one likes a party pooper! TIME FOR CLEVELAND TO COP A NEW ATTITUDE!
Most global eclipse chasers are affluent 1%-ers who can afford to travel to the extreme reaches of the globe to see a 2-minute eclipse. The
#EclipseOverCleveland
on Monday, April 8, 2024 is for the rest of us. MAKE YOUR PLANS EARLY! BE PREPARED!
@ArmstrongSpace
Buzz Aldrin, hands down, no question. Neil avoided the limelight but Buzz would have embraced it and been a great front man for keeping manned spaceflight on the forefront. We'd've gone to Mars long ago had Buzz been the first man on the Moon.
Have you been hearing about the TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE that will happen over Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, April 8, 2024? Well you have now! Spread the word!
#EclipseOverCleveland
#Eclipse2024
Thank you
@mark_oprea
, what a colorful, well-composed, wide-ranging and thoughtful article. Well done! Thank you for letting me be a part of it and for including some great quotes, especially the "turning point" line. (This week's

Artist-scientist-TV star Tyler Nordgren
@NightSkyPark
did this wonderful image of our iconic Rt 82 bridge over the
@CVNPNPS
. So glad he found a great gig here in
#Cleveland
, I was plugging him years ago to "the powers that be" in this town, receiving the "usual" response.
One BIG eclipse myth is not understanding that a TOTAL eclipse is WAY different from a PARTIAL eclipse. We're having this problem here in
#Cleveland
, where many
#Guardians
fans don't appreciate that this is HUGE, like a World Series victory in the sky. Hope they learn in time!
People have a lot of misconceptions about eclipses. Like eclipses are somehow dangerous, that kids, pets, and pregnant women should not go outside during an eclipse. WRONG! Getting the facts is part of eclipse preparedness. Start here =>
The red swing bridge, a main artery between the west and east sides of the Flats, was set to open in late summer. But Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Kovacs said safety testing will take another week. Read more:
After the sunniest winter in living memory, all this crappy wet weather leading into April 8 is a definite bummer, but let's keep hope alive for the
#EclipseOverCleveland
! Don't be like those Debbie Downers wishing for a clouded out Eclipse Day!
IT'S OFFICIAL! According to the Voice of Authority,
@jamieacarter
, "The World's Only Solar Eclipse Journalist," the Jewel Prominence of April 8 was NOT a "solar flare" as widely misreported. And my tweet got included in the story! Thanks Jamie!
For those looking to take in the eclipse from Progressive Field Monday before the
@CleGuardians
home opener, this is where the sun was situated at 3pm today, so you’ll need to be bleachers over to right field and 1st base side
WAAAAY too many "eclipse skeptics" here in Cleveland, Ohio who think the eclipse is "stupid" or "too much hype" and are planning to stay at work, take a nap or otherwise blow off stepping outside at 3:13 PM next Monday. Meanwhile, people are traveling from all over the world.
"Chasing Totality" is an exhibit at the Rutherford B. Hayes presidential library in Fremont, OH. Everyone should visit this site. Here's an exhibit of Oppolzer's 1887 Eclipse Canon showing the data and map of the 2024 eclipse. Really cool stuff.
On Eclipse Day 2024, totality begins over Ohio at 3:06 PM when the Moon's umbra crosses the state line at Cedar Springs. Totality ends over Ohio 13 minutes later at 3:19 PM when the umbra departs from the state at Conneaut, when it is med-eclipse over Niagara Falls.
99% MYTH:
#Youngstown
,
#Canton
,
#Columbus
and
#Cincinnati
are OUTSIDE the path of totality. They'll see a 99% partial eclipse and NOT a total solar eclipse. People think they'll see "99% darkness" but it'll only be dim sunshine. GET YOURSELF TO THE PATH ON ECLIPSE DAY 2024!
Here's an old dude on Channel 8 today talking about the eclipse on
@NewDayCLE
. So grateful to David and Emma and everyone at the studio, that really was a fun experience. Hope the viewers picked up a few fresh factoids about the eclipse.
Go ahead and let our Cleveland weather have a good cry for the next week, get it all out of its system, and then clear the way for the
#EclipseOverCleveland
! Keep the faith, brothers and sisters! No more Cleveland-style weather pessimism! It's time for "Eclipse Believeland"!
If we get any clear nights here, you can follow the Moon's progression toward the
#EclipseOverCleveland
. The Full Moon of Sunday night/Monday morning will be a penumbral lunar eclipse, since solar and lunar eclipses always come in pairs.
As usual, the media is missing the story. All the reports are talking about logistics and where to get eclipse viewers but none are telling the public what they will see during the eclipse. That's why you need me! Watch this =>
@ShareTheRiver
I'll always miss driving on Riverbend Rd. They closed all my favorite shortcuts. Used to be able to drive from my house, through the Flats, all the way to Edgewater, without sitting at a light.
TEST: I'm wondering if I've been shadowbanned on Twitter for some reason (probably for making fun of
@elonmusk
and X). If you can see this, please click like. Thanks for your help with this experiment.
@BedrockCLE
@SherwinWilliams
I really hope Bedrock intends to preserve the 19th century sandstone abutment of the old Carter Rd Bridge, which has stood on the current site of Riverview Parking for maybe 150 years (i.e., not moving it like they did the old Central Viaduct piers.)
I'll be on Channel 8 on
@NewDayCLE
this morning at 11AM if anyone is interested in seeing an old, grey, shiny head on TV talking about the eclipse. 11 days till Eclipse Day!
This is an OUTRIGHT LIE! It's bad enough that there are so many misconceptions without Lorain County officially attempting to deceive the public. FACT: totality is 4 seconds longer in Lorain than in CLE. Is this actionable? A public retraction and apology is in order
@TheCLE
Cleveland is in prime position for the viewing of April 8th’s Total Solar Eclipse!
You’ll have to wait 420 years to see this again, so don’t miss out 🌚
There is ongoing confusion in the public about the difference between partial and total eclipse phases. The main takeaway is, here in Cleveland, we'll have a TOTAL eclipse in April, but we've only had PARTIALS in the last 218 years!
Can't believe I'm still hearing this! Sheesh Cleveland, at least just go outside at 3:00 PM for a lousy 15 minutes! TAKE THE ECLIPSE OVER CLEVELAND 15 MINUTE CHALLENGE!
@ClevelandScene
Don't forget fish fries. I texted my friend in San Diego last night -- at a west side lenten fish fry listening to "It Never Rains in Southern California" played on an accordion. It doesn't get any more "Cleveland" than that. She thought I was joking.
Astronomer Tyler Nordgren does beautiful eclipse art in the style the old Depression-era WPA national park artwork. And now he's taking his talents to the
#EclipseOverCleveland
!
@CVNPNPS
Okay, maybe you're an "eclipse skeptic" right now. But trust me on this one, if you go ahead take that Monday off work now, maybe the next day too, you'll be really glad you did.
TOTALITY! The media are now doing wall-to-wall eclipse coverage but are STILL failing to prepare the public for the experience of totality. Watch the video and read the content on this page and learn what to expect during the
#EclipseOverCleveland
=>
The annular eclipse of Oct 14 is NOT the same thing as the total eclipse we'll see during the
#EclipseOverCleveland
. Learn the difference by reading the text and/or watching the video at this page =>
@poloconghaile
@AerLingus
@TheCLE
Definitely hit our world-class art museum, including several famous works. Depending on your tastes, we always stop at Tommy's on Coventry for a falafel. I recommend the Aunt Rose.
The last time there was an
#EclipseOverCleveland
it was still Cleaveland! This place was not even a village in 1806, but merely a frontier settlement at the mouth of the Cuyahoga. So Monday, April 8, 2024 will actually be the first eclipse here!
PATH OF TOTALITY: Contrary to the outright lies put out by Lorain County, here's a depiction of the cities in Ohio where totality will not be visible -- Cincinnati, Columbus, Canton, Youngstown and points south (and the northwesternmost sliver of Ohio).
Awright, I'm only sharing this because it's funny, but it does reflect the commonplace "weather pessimism" that many Clevelanders seem to be wishing for during the
#EclipseOverCleveland
.
@Kevin_DeFranco
Time is on Cleveland's side. As Lake Meade continues to dry up, that 6 quadrillion gallons in the Great Lakes system starts looking attractive.
Predicting cloudy Eclipse Day weather is like predicting a losing season on opening day! C'mon
#Cleveland
, you keep believing in our local sports franchises year after year, how bout giving the
#EclipseOverCleveland
just one day? Have
#faith
, brothers and sisters!
It's actually comical - millions will travel to the path of totality, yet many who live along the path are annoyed and disinterested in the eclipse! Not too late to change your mind! Take the 15 minute Challenge! Go outside at 3PM on Eclipse Day for a mere 15 minutes!
Took a while but here's my GoPro eclipse vid at normal speed. No Sun, sky and landscape only, but it includes my "screaming and yelling" color commentary of what I'm seeing. Vid is slow until about 2:00 when the action commences.
Another unfortunate eclipse "urban legend" is that there is something inherently dangerous about eclipses. This takes eclipse safety to an absurd opposite direction. Learn the facts. Just ask
@NightSkyPark
.
Two comets during totality 💫💫☀️

⚠️ A few people have posted Cathrin Machin’s painting of my 2017 eclipse photo, claiming that the photo is from the April 8th eclipse,
99% is not good enough! In 2017 there were "totality deniers" who thought they'd have a great view outside the path of totality. They squandered a rare opportunity and learned a hard lesson. Don't repeat that mistake in 2024! Get yourself on the path!
@clevelanddotcom
I dragged out the telescope and we had a dark sky party for the neighborhood. Might have been the first time the Milky Way was visible over Cleveland, Ohio in 100 years.
HEY CLEVELAND!!! The word of the day is PROMINENCE! That "red laser" during the eclipse was NOT a "solar flare" like everyone's saying, nor was it a "diamond ring" or a "baily's bead" but rather a "prominence." Learn from this top solar physicist....
There are many (incorrectly) reporting that a
#SolarFlare
was visible during the
#TotalSolarEclipse
. This is sadly untrue, and the bright feature seen by millions was actually a prominence (shown below)! These are longer-lived plasma structures, and not explosive like flares.
@clevelanddotcom
All that remains today is a 120 degree sector where the old HoJo used to be, now given the pretentious name of "One University Circle. That's good because there's not enough Circle left for "Two University Circle." I also want to know where's the "square" in Playhouse Square?
I was cycling on Lorain-Carnegie at 3:13 today. This would be an AWESOME location to view totality! Wide open panorama and a great view of Downtown. If you have tix for the game, go here instead of the park. The high point is an expansion joint just west of the 35mph sign.
I mean, you really can't explain it and there's no convincing the skeptics. But in 30 days, millions of Ohioans and other Americans will see for themselves.
With under a month until the North American
#TotalSolarEclipse
, I’m reminded of this XKCD comic. If you can get under the path of totality, DO IT. A *partial* and *total*
#eclipse
are LITERALLY world’s apart.
Here's hoping that people in Cincinnati, Columbus, Canton and Youngstown will get the message before Monday, April 8, 2024! We're working toward 100% Ohio participation in the
#EclipseOverCleveland
It's really hard to communicate to people the rarity and importance of a total solar eclipse before the fact. But everyone who sees the
#EclipseOverCleveland
on Monday, April 8, 2024 will understand. I just feel bad for everyone who will blow it off and miss out.
Oh, hey! We hope you're enjoying the read about the upcoming total solar eclipse in Northeast Ohio: our cover story for the April issue of Cleveland Magazine! ✨
Read more about the eclipse here:
Unsurprisingly, there is some airheaded media reporting (as shared by
@eclipseutsa
) to the effect that eclipse observers will be satisfied with a 99% eclipse. WRONG! They'll miss totality! Get the facts and quick, only 53 days remain!
The
#EclipseOverCleveland
is coming up quick! Monday, April 8, 2024 is only 10 months away! Are you prepared? Visit our website to find everything you need to know =>
Now that the
#EclipseOverCleveland
is approaching, many people are falling for the 99% myth. Don't believe it, folks! At 99%, sky brightness is only diminished to 1/100th of a full sunny day. But at TOTALITY the sky is 1/1,000,000th as bright as a full sunny day.
@SkrticX
@DowntownCLE
LOL I remember the whole Free Stamp debacle with Sohio and BP from back in the 80s. It is pretty cool. Like Michael Heaton said, you always remember the name of the Free Stamp, unlike the name of that sewer pipe in front of the Justice Center.
WEST SIDE OF CLEVELAND! Councilwoman Spencer invites you to Zone Rec at W 65th & Lorain to learn more about the eclipse! I'll be giving my same presentation "Eclipse Over Cleveland" delivered this winter at 8
@CuyahogaLib
branches all over the burbs.
Two weeks from today on March 21st...join my staff and me at Zone Rec for a special presentation about the total solar eclipse and enjoy 🍕 too! If you can't make it, eclipse viewing shades 😎 will be available at Lorain Branch Library beginning March 25th (limit two per person).
TIME IS UP! All the advance prep work has been done, everyone who planned ahead has done so. 5 years of talking and zoom calls and meetings have been done.
Very little to do now but kick back await the stunning spectacle of the
#EclipseOverCleveland
.
