As we head into winter, it's a good time to review what the data shows us about mask efficacy against respiratory viruses. (Long 🧵👇) Immunity and therapeutics give effective protection. Masks do not. Let's rely on what works.
We now have many well-controlled studies showing masks have negligible to zero efficacy in real-world use. Two extensively careful contact tracing studies in Spain showed no benefit.
