5 year old lit his pumpkin and excitedly waited in fancy dress for trick/treaters. None came (terrible weather). Tears followed.
I called neighbour in secret who sent her 20 and 14 year olds round IN FULL ZOMBIE GEAR at 10 minutes notice.
Happy 5yo.
Best. Neighbours. Ever.
60% of the patients I saw on the admissions ward during this evening's on-call shift were young healthy people with complications of recent

It really is worth trying to not get covid

They also decorated the fence between our gardens with banners and balloons when his birthday fell during covid lockdown. They are the best 😊
Today in 'you know you've been a registrar for too long when...'
The consultant supervising me on procedure list had been taught to do that particular procedure when she was a registrar by... me.
Have been wearing polo shirts for my on calls for the last couple of months, and keep getting mistaken for a

Why do physios have a monopoly on polo shirts in hospital?!
Why won't you share the balanced smart-yet-casual comfort, you monsters?!!
In answer to the most common question being asked:
Mixture of vaccinated and unvaccinated. But more than half were unvaccinated, which is quite an over-representation compared to vaccination rates in the local population.
Also, this is just the patients I personally saw on that shift (not pre-selected to pick these cases). I am not suggesting that 60% of all hospital admissions have covid complications
Can we please just do away with
#fireworks
for home use? They injure many people, terrify pets and wildlife, are bad for the environment, and look shit.
Large organised shows granted a permit might be acceptable, but in residential gardens? Nope.

An extra 10% tax, but only for students whose parents can't afford to find their education up front.

This is why NHS staff are striking. Conditions must improve
Came to Leicester for a 2 year job contract, with no specific plans or reasons to stay.
Completely won over by the vibrancy, diversity and friendliness of the city and people.
9 years later and I'm still here. No plans to go anywhere.

My hospital trust has opened a food bank at each of its hospital sites. Great that the Trust is looking out for its staff in need. But...
... properly paid NHS staff should not need to access a food bank.
So much wrong with, well, *everything* at the moment
Received my first

Very well organised and efficient. Thank you to all those involved in delivering this. You are all heroes 👏

Absolutely this. It's one massive con. Sits earning someone else interest for up to 11 months of the year before being taken off your debt. The whole system needs binning and starting again
Daily walk w/ wife, son & dog in fields near home. Accosted by aggressive man jabbing finger and telling me I was putting NHS at risk
After month working covid ward w/ poor PPE, I'm ashamed to admit I lost my head and told him where to go
Hadn't realised just how stressed I am
Has anyone ever employed a full time cleaner just for getting through the early stages of baby led weaning? Asking for a friend.
I mean, it's literally the whole kitchen 3 times a day! My friend's kitchen I mean, obvs...
@DrLou83
Absolutely this. Our rota managers seem confused when I decline locum shifts even at enhanced rates (I very rarely do locums). What they don't seem to understand is that I place more value on those hours with my kids than they could offer in money. I barely see them as it is!
10th in age group at European Championships. That'll do nicely 😊
Great few days with this lovely bunch. Now home for a couple of weeks off before winter training starts!
@franpatania18
Wife works away on Monday nights so I was solo parenting the 5yo and 1yo. Didn't want to take the 1yo out in torrential rain shortly before bedtime
Scrubs taught me about dealing with new doctor stresses/emotions better than med school.
Dr Cox's "better go get yourself a cup of coffee. New game starts in 4 minutes" saw me through some of the darkest depths of the pandemic

Scrubs is the *only* answer here

In Bilbao getting ready to race in the Aquathlon at the European Multisport Championships tomorrow. My GBR age group team debut. Wish me luck! 🏊♂️🏃♂️

Wow, that's an interesting take on parenting.
For what it's worth, he was quietly sobbing to himself whilst trying to brush his teeth, not throwing a tantrum in order to get his own way.

earlier this week. I worried it would be a non-event for him stuck at home
But:
Online cake with family
Nextdoor decorated our fence with balloons/banners
Neighbours all came out to sing happy birthday
Played all day together
It was wonderful. He loved it.

Please feel free to share the work schedules of your junior doctors to prove this.
Even if you are right and they work 36 hours - that's only £15.65 per hour (£29,384/1877 hours).
40 hrs/week is £14.09/hr (£29,384/2086 hours), as you've already been told but refuse to believe
@Badabing000
@respphysio
Very sorry to hear that. Hope you recover. There is still so much we don't understand about long covid, so please don't lose hope that research will lead to help in the future.
When my 2 year old wakes up in the morning he'll often sing nursery rhymes quietly to himself for a few minutes.
This morning it was 'We will rock you' at max volume, and I think we all need a bit of that Tuesday morning energy!

I'm just sorry our government and gutter press don't realise that
Kind of a strange feeling seeing these wards empty and ready to be put to their intended use, after having some of the most challenging and emotionally draining experiences of my career on there for the last year or two.
Welcome to Glenfield

Beautiful morning for a trail run. So lucky to have these routes from my door. Don't think I'd have got into running otherwise.
Whatever your weekend looks like, take the time to do something active outside of you can. I guarantee you'll feel better for it

Dog often retrieves our mail from the letterbox and brings it to us.
However, he kept this one for himself today. He either wants a buddy, or he wants to move out...

I've been a registrar (resident) for so long (10 years) that other registrars that I helped train in a procedure are now my consultant (attending) who is there to supervise me doing that same procedure
I'm not sure if now is a good time to admit that I literally turn pharmacist-pen-green with envy when the weather is warm and physios are able to pair their polo with some shorts...
Can we please stop using the phrase 'end of life pathway'? Dying (and looking after those who are dying) is not a flow chart.
'End of life care' is infinitely better. The semantics are important. If someone used 'pathway' about my loved one I'd be seething inside
Not the race I was hoping for at the World Multisport Championships. Saved my slowest run split in years for the biggest race! 🤦♂️
Lots of lessons learnt, and still enjoyed the whole age group world champs experience.

1. One COVID patient on a ward does not shut it. Likely means a lot of shuffling beds around, but bed areas cleaned and re-opened very quickly.
2. There are no staff to run the Nightingale Hospitals.

It's also important to remember that without lockdowns the NHS would have been completely overwhelmed by covid and many more people would have died from other health conditions. Lockdowns are the lesser of two evils unfortunately
Didn't really expect "try to avoid catching this infectious disease which has serious potential short and medium term complications, and unknown long term complications" to be such controversial health advice... 🤔

Gotta love toddlers for suddenly deciding that absolutely everything about the daily routine, which has worked perfectly fine for the last 6 months, is now deeply deeply offensive to their existence
4 year old has been telling me with absolute confidence all week that he was going to win school cross country.
I've spent all week telling him that he might not win but the main thing is to have fun and try his best.
Have now appointed him as my personal sports psychologist...

Watching 4 year old son play hide and seek in the park with a school friend.
His friend is counting, and is stuck on a repeating loop between 12 and 19 (12 follows every 19 again...), while my son madly runs undecided between 2 equally terrible hiding places.

From my understanding, and a quick look now for recent info on pubmed - d-dimer still appears to be a good rule out test for VTE even in the setting of covid. Geneva - patients with acute covid will score 2 for that so only need 1 more point to become 'high risk'. I imagine...
Cromwell got to see his lady friend for the first time in 16 months this evening.

They ran around the garden like idiots and shared some left over bbq sausages. It was beautiful.

Of course. Viral myocarditis is not a new thing to covid. Covid does seem to be more likely to cause this than most other viruses though, and current high covid infection rates mean even uncommon complications are occurring reasonably often

a simple idea which has been so effective in keeping patients and staff safe 👍👍
… from the patient’s accompanying friends & communicated with, & updated a medical team on the ground.
Thankfully, just after ~90 seconds of CPR, our patient regained a pulse and was starting to be somewhat arousable. Within 10 mins, she was able to sit up… 4/
