Very excited to publish this amazing interview with Dr David Toub about the Sonata treatment for fibroids. Sonata is an incisionless high-tech procedure effective in treating fibroids.
Could it be a good option for you?
The part of the NHS people don't see - I'm on annual leave but at home. Called today about a patient who was admitted. I'm now going in to do her operation as I'm the best person to do it. I won't claim any money or time back. This is the best thing for the patient. Full stop.
Recently saw a teenager with such heavy periods she walks around with this to sit on in case she leaks.
Just to emphasise that this should be taken seriously, and treated, or referral made.
I'm a consultant gynaecologist and had 2 vaccines & booster, as has my husband. My son had his 1st last week (he had Covid in Sept 21).
It is the single most important thing I can do to avoid being admitted to ICU or dying from COVID. And it will protect those I care about most.
As a trained Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and a mother, my heart breaks for the parents of the innocent children who lost their precious lives at the hands of Lucy Letby.
As a NHS consultant I'm proud of those Paediatricians who raised suspicions, battled management & saved more
To my colleagues. I did strike over the past 2 days
All my elective work was cancelled
I had a sick patient on the ward, so I went in on both days to see her. Then promptly left.
I would have done the same on Christmas Day
If you saw me in the hospital, that's why
I won't be paid
Saw a patient the other day who told me that her son had just qualified as a doctor.
'Congratulations! You must be so proud! Tell him "Welcome aboard!" from me.'
She said, 'Unfortunately he plans to go to Australia'

The irony of taking to social media to tell people not to be outraged because social media seeks to tell us what we should be furious about.
'Don't listen to social media, listen to me on social media'
@Thornton_health
Actually, we are showing leadership by valuing and supporting our highly-skilled junior doctor, nursing and paramedical staff
We are making a stand to protect the consultant position and,by extension, the NHS for generations to come
Not demeaning, but rather dignifying ourselves.

Really disheartening. I feel for the juniors. Their training has been shattered by having to cover rota gaps all the time. Their pay has not kept up with inflation. They are having to compete with other healthcare professionals
Told my 15 year old that to support my juniors & keep patients safe, I'm gonna do a 12-hour overnight resident on-call as a junior doc during the strike
Him: 'Patients will take one look at you and ask:
"How many times were you put back a year in medical school, Doc?"

Last week myself, my secretary and a couple of colleagues received the most insulting and abusive email from a patient.
I have never seen anything like this before in over 25 years as a doctor.
I was initially shocked. I showed a couple of colleagues and their reactions nearly
@DavidNautilus1
Yes.
It's like how when adults don't turn up for hospital appointments we say they 'Did not attend'
When a child doesn't turn up, we say: 'Was not brought'.
This distinction makes it clear that it was not the child's decision.
I have lived in the UK for 24 years and have treated innumerable patients in the NHS over that time.
I have never felt afraid to live here....until today.
@piersmorgan
Desperately sad.
Also sad is the fact that NHS consultants have lost autonomy and respect, are dictated to by managers, are ignored, controlled and undermined repeatedly?
This is the life of many NHS consultants.
This was a massive example, but replicated in many smaller issues.
@EmergencyMedDr
I don't think it's shameful. I was just trying to help a colleague and a patient. However, due to many comments urging me to do so, I will take time off.
This a benefit of Twitter. One can hear varying views & opinions.
I'm glad I've posted it as I've heard the alternative view.
Re: Barn door...
Gave my husband (works in IT), the history of calf pain and shortness of breath, and that the patient died shorty after being seen twice.
His response: 'Did she have a clot?'
He works with computers folks!
Enough said.
The enquiry into the Mid Staffs scandal reported that consultants were to blame for letting it happen around them and not standing up.
I am standing up. I think the compromise in standards of health care that will result from roles which should be undertaken by non-doctors,
My son will soon be turning 17.
Husband says he only needs to learn to drive an automatic. I thunk he should learn to drive a manual to keep his options open.

Opinions appreciated. Can add rationale for your answer by replying below.

I'm coming round to the idea of calling medically-trained consultants 'Attendings' and postgraduate doctors in further training 'Residents' to remove ambiguity
Plus MD after one's name if a medical doctor

removed a huge parasitic fibroid in a major gynae op. Gave me a pain-free life & saved my fertility. She was kind, caring, hilarious, one hell of a Surgeon & an asset to this country. If you think otherwise, Get In The Bin!
Recently saw a 17 year old who had a cholecystectomy for gallstones.
How is this relevant to gynaecology and periods?
I asked her if she had been tested for sickle cell disease.
She had.
I use the broad range of knowledge I obtained in medical school on a daily basis.

We're taking a stand.
We're taking extra shifts to cover colleagues who have left.
We're taking the future of the NHS seriously.
We're taking care of the next generation of consultants.
Maybe medical consultants need a bit of rebranding (everyone else seems to be having one). Why don't we self-assess & call ourselves something else commensurate with our knowledge and experience?
Maybe Medical Grandmaster? (totally ripped off from chess)
Any other title ideas?

When I was Clinical Director for gynaecology, I instituted a rule that all patients who 'Did not attend', instead of just discharging them, were sent a letter saying that if they wished to be seen, that they could contact us within 28 days to rebook their appointment.
Well, I've had an interesting day reading all of your comments and messages. Yes, ok, I will take time off in lieu. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Also ‘less-qualified clinicians known as a physician associate (PA).’ Is wrong. They are differently qualified. It’s as if one says a paramedic is less qualified than a doctor. It’s insulting to these groups and really undermines their skills.
'Promiscuous tight shorts'...these 3 words alone reveal your antiquated, small-minded, judgemental attitude towards women.
An attitude most modern people don't really want to hear about.
You’d never see Therese Coffey swaying to seductive Latin beats.
Priti would never strut her sass on a public highway.
Would Liz Truss wear promiscuous tight shorts like this?
Yet this is our DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER Angela Rayner.

I always assume that what I say may be documented, so I always introduce myself as Dr Busby, gynae consultant.
So people know who they're talking to and my grade
I've always done this..
I'm Dr Busby, gynae registrar
I'm Dr Busby, gynae sho..
No judgement about who I'm talking to
may be missed until it's too late. The British public deserve better!
I've been pretty quiet about these issues, but I think it's important to add my voice to those speaking out.
If you've got this far, thanks for listening!
@LMuttl
I would not dream of posting it otherwise. Even though she is not identifiable by the photo.
They were so grateful to be listened to that they were happy to raise awareness.
Consultant colleagues, be present, train your juniors. Be a role-model. Consultants make a difference. A message I received today:
I wanted to say that you have been a true inspiration to me. I admire the way you care for and advocate for your patients, and how you have

I grew up in the Caribbean, spent a lot of my time bare-footed as a child, and loved going to the beach. Fresh tropical fruit is delicious and healthy. This did not hamper my education in any way. I aced maths, English, Spanish, biology, chemistry, physics.....
My views haven't changed.
Yes, I'm striking.
Striking, not for myself, but for the future of my profession within the NHS, and the futures of the bright, hardworking and skilled colleagues who will be the consultants of the future.
Working in the NHS is just not what it used to be.

shortening medical school & medical apprenticeships right out of secondary school (bypassing medical school) is unsafe & should be resisted. The recent incident is the tip of the iceberg The British public will be the ones who pay the price with their health & they deserve better
Of course it is the anaesthetists who will make the first formal stand against what we have all been muttering about!

See 1 patient at a time. Don't try to save time by, e.g taking a history in 1 room and examining another patient in another
Give each patient your full attention & the time they deserve, even if you run late. The later patients will understand when they receive the same attention

Why doesn't the neurologist refer directly? Is it that we don't know how as the system's so complex?
Is it that we're not 'allowed'?

As a female doctor, actually I don't agree with this.
In fact, it has never crossed my mind.
It is more political than gender-related, I think.
As for unqualified people thinking they can do a doctor's job....who is giving them that impression? Politicians and doctors!

It's definitely a tiny minority. I travelled by train to Birmingham Thursday/Friday and met lovely people on the trains (had great chats), met some fab guys in a record shop - even did a crossword with them!! And many people were so kind to stop and give me directions while

Yes, every single patient I see who needs a hysteroscopy, I offer the choice of outpatient or general anaesthetic.
I quote that 1 in 3 women have severe pain at OPH. If this option is chosen, consent is reconfirmed throughout the procedure. The patient is in charge at all times.
