This is awesome - The Emperor of Japan, Akihito, still publishes (and as first author). Notice he has only one name (cause he is the Emperor) and his unique address. Awesome and cool scientist Emperor!

My lab’s first pre-print! We present the “Killifish” for a mammalian model:-) We describe a mouse model that was generated by 45 years (!!) of breeding. These are the biggest mice in the world - say hello to Titan mice... More work to follow...
🔥🔥🔥 new preprint! This is the most important scientific work that I will ever contribute to.
Enabling a metazoan to harness the energy of light and directly translate it to chemical energy (Energy replacement) extends life span. More work to come!
I am happy to share that our manuscript has finally seen the Light (!!) of day in

Nicely showing we didnt really treat aging - we just made it possible for greater % of our population reach old age.
Reaching 150 years? Being young like when 80? We are not even close.
PhD position in my lab:
I am going to start looking soon for a PhD to work on light energy, aging, mitochondria and such=crazy out of the box project:)
Please reach out to me if you are interested!

🔥🔥🔥Our latest contribution to science. 50 years of ongoing selection generated (probably) the largest mouse lab - well over 140 grams. If you would like to know more about these Titan mice (or other selected mice), contact me:)
We have too much free time during the corona...so we ended up with this super long review

We need more funding to study aging…
But for heavens sake - stop funding the same labs and the same ideas over and over. Give funding to diverse ideas! Dare to fund ideas that might fail… but some new ideas will work… and may change the world

I am very happy to share that our lab got a second Impetus Grant! Credit goes to my student
@BenetotheG
for preparing the application with me. In this grant, we will focus anti-aging interventions in giant Rock mice.
Thank you

Super duper month:
2 new PhD students
1 Impetus grant
2 Papers accepted
1 pre-print
1 company
Amazing ARDD conference
Makes me almost feel like I am succesful:) Haha
But soon comes the interview for my son's 5th grade private scool (on zoom!). I am nervous:)
Scientists should not be promoting their ideas too hard. If the idea is good, based on solid reproducible data, then the idea would promote itself. But when a scientist promotes shakey data, it directs the field in wrong directions and halt progress for an astonishing long time.
Every dollar spent on aging research is a blessing! But we repeat our mistakes - we must not invest the money in only few so called promising ideas. Not invest only in few 'high profile selected' few labs. If we put all our eggs in one basket, we will end up disappointed.

Dear Twitters - please retweet:
I have a position for a PhD student.
Looking for a highly motivated student to (crazy but fun) research aging/ optogenetics /giant mice in my lab.
Suitable candidates should send me a direct email: shahafpeleg3

We should fight aging, fight climate change, go to Mars, use all our knowledge to move forward.
Instead, I notice we shift towards 12th century religious extremists and nationalism.
Where did we go wrong? We are going back to dark ages here!
Our lab first major contribution to science. We tried to answer a long lasting mystery in the field of aging and characterised the survival of DRY ICE in room temperature. By applying semi rigorous techniques with N=1 box, attached please find the data for future FEDEX shipment:)
Today, I am part of a submission of a (small sized) manuscript....but it is the most important manuscript I have ever, and maybe ever from now on, be part of.
I think it has the potential to open a new subfield of aging and beyond. Sci Fi stuff.

You are welcome to write to corresponding author and inquire what did the first author contribute....:) On the other hand, he has the time, and keen about marine life...anyway...

If it won't stop till 70%, wouldn't it be indeed wise to just have the elderly stay home, but the young acting more normal? Are we just prolonging the inventible?
I am very happy to be given the chance to give a talk at ARDD 2022!
The title of my talk will be:
Energy replacement: Harnessing the energy of light into mitochondrial chemical energy increase lifespan
Looking forward to meet people from the aging field!

You can try ignoring it, however if you really wish to see human live pass 120, you must invest in new lines of thoughts.
Investing in diet/exercise/drugs that activate or inhibit a single "in-program" pathway, will not only not achieve your goal but also inhibit promising ideas
Today I got my rejection from the ERC consolidator. One reviewer wrote:
"The idea, developed in the lab of the previous supervisor, XXX, is to use..."
Problem is I was never supervised by xxx.
Basically the reviewer re-wrote my CV
?!?!
What is this?

I am thrilled to share that our lab and our collaborator got an Impetus grant!! 🔥🔥This project is super crazy and I would like to thank the Impetus organization for the rapid process and willingness to fund such crazy project. I hope we see more of such amazing funding schemes

Longevity interventions in Titan mice attenuate frailty and senescence accumulation
Every research on tackling aging is a blessing.
But, we should divide our efforts and funding:
1) Diet intervention - mild potential
2)Interventions to impact healthy/median life span (Rapamycin, metformin)
3)Radical interventions for max human life span - need much more funding.

Why no one showed a lifelong OKSM reprogramming in a mouse yet? Why starting only in old mice or some DNA damage mouse model? I know it has been shown in flies. Isn’t it straight forward?
I think my soul got scratched.
But once the war is over and Hamas is gone we need to face the hard truth.
Many children are dead from both sides. Unimaginable number. There are no Israeli or Palestinian children. Children are children.
We must find a long term solution.
If we seriously wish to radically increase life span...live beyond 120 - we must start funding and supporting radical ideas. I really believe it is the only way forward.
Likewise, I also believe that only a computer aging engine (like in chess) can integrate data well enough.
Happy 7th birthday Aiden!
Since the day you were born, life has been in a bit of a turmoil....but one thing is constantly certain....that I will always, unconditionally love you till the rest of my days....and that my main goal would be to seek the path to ensure your happiness!
@jonykipnis
I dislike this advice
You should behave like yourself. A postdoc should be a good fit to the lab and vice versa. All this extra politeness is extra 'artificial' -gives a false impression . I rather the person behaves as normal as possible to know what I get than fake politeness.

The best (yet small) chance we have to increase human life span in our life time is to give money for crazy ideas and let crazy people do such research. The way we work now is pretty in the box, mainstreamed by big scientists and the need to publish a story rather than go wild.
“We could stay a thousand years. No one would find us,” she tells Jon, as the dragons watch them embrace.

@yangranat
100%
But as far as I know - no current heavily researched idea will increased our lifespan more than 5-10.
We have almost no out of the box idea.
The major obstacle to develop anti aging treatment, at least in my mind, is not lack of ideas or understanding aging (though we know very little).
It’s the human factor that really hinders us - politics, self interest, misinformation- all to boost a profile of certain individuals
