True. It’s really difficult to find pertinent employment data about our industry. I sort of use as a good bellwether to assess the quality of the job market. It’s self reported data, but it has decent granularity about levels, years of experience, base comp, etc. Also has a metro area wide graphics of compensation levels for different tech professions. It’s a really goated tool tbh

No shade to OP, but it looks like he specializes in industries like design agencies/marketing agencies that target niches that don’t reflect 80% of software engineering workloads. He’s not a good bellwether for trends in the industry. There’s entire category of software that’s being written now that was infeasible before AI assistants. The nature of software development work will be different, but demand will likely move upwards.

A lot of people don't realize this, but the territories that of Madras Presidency had similar or higher % of school age children in schools than England in the 1820s. About 23% of school age boys in Madras Presidency were attending school. The trajectory was completely inverted in the next century however... England achieved universal schooling in the 1880s while most Indian polities stagnated. Colonialism may have been a factor.

As someone who doesn't know anyone like that personally: 1. How do they maintain an income? Even being hungover makes me a lot more unproductive at my laptop job the next day, to the point where I have to coaxed to go to a weekday happy hour. I imagine its worse if it involves work operating machinery of physically moving around. 2. How are they not fat? Isn't alcohol a ton of calories? Don't they end up getting super hungry after drinking?
