@thiswargonnaend @joodalooped Yeah my sense is that they were just like, we’re not gonna go through 000s of languages and scripts one by one to determine which subset is appropriate for a domain name and which isn’t, TLD registries can do their own due diligence (they didn’t).

But it was not funded by USAID. It was funded from the State Department public diplomacy budget—each US embassy has one, and ambassadors have significant discretion over what gets financed. The difference may be not relevant if you want to make a general point about inefficiency of government spending, but people make pretty specific points justifying abolishing that particular organization and firing its employees, in which case the distinction does become relevant.

@architectrader Unfortunately, we’re just having that natural experiment (since most Ukrainian men are forbidden from travelling abroad, the refugee wave is very gender-imbalanced), and I’m not seeing any results so far!
