The new basis state pension on the lower rate is £8814, a lot lower than the higher rate. The majority of pensioners will be on the lower rate so it’s a bit misleading to the general public who probably think pensioners are living the life of Riley!

Piers, the majority of care homes are privately owned. The owners should have taken steps to do what they are paid to do and care for their residents. A lot of care homes took the initiative and locked down early, before the govt.directive. Why didn’t the others do that?

I don’t believe the NHS would say cancer treatment was unaffordable. My late partner had terminal lung cancer (secondary brain cancer) but he was operated on (he hadn’t given up hope though it was far too late). NHS didn’t refuse him treatment.
