I am shocked and appalled by the violent, antisemitic riot that broke out at
@HillcrestHSNYC
earlier this week. A Jewish educator was targeted for her religious identity. This is unacceptable and we will never tolerate hate in Queens.
Please see my full statement below:
Today my Clean Bill of Adoptee Rights guaranteeing adoptees access to their original birth certificates passed the Assembly and will be delivered to the Governor. I thank Sen. Montgomery for sponsoring this bill in the Senate & helping to restore this crucial right.
Today
@NYGovCuomo
signed my bill A5494, the Clean Bill of Adoptee Rights, into law guaranteeing adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates.
Today I spoke against
#congestionpricing
in
#Manhattan
. New York’s struggling middle class cannot afford another regressive tax in the form of a congestion tax. We need to penalize congestion makers and tax the wealthiest New Yorkers to fund the
@MTA
and reduce traffic.
This afternoon
@JeniferRajkumar
and I led a public gathering outside the Sikh Cultural Society with community and elected leaders. Together we denounced the recent attack against an elderly Sikh man in our neighborhood.
Today I gathered a coalition representing teachers, first responders, delivery drivers, and more. Congestion Pricing will hurt everyday New Yorkers to bail out this latest disaster from the
@MTA
. I’ve been clear and consistent since it was first proposed: No Congestion Pricing!
I am proud to see Fair & Timely and Elder Parole pass out of the Corrections Committee. We are one step closer to getting these bills to the Governor’s desk. We call on the Speaker to advance these bills to the floor. I will continue to advocate for these important bills
We are in a public safety crisis. The
@NYPDnews
has 3,000 fewer police officers since last year. Reducing the police headcount will not stop crime.

I would like to wish a heartfelt congratulations to
@bradlander
on a hard fought campaign. I know you will be a great comptroller for the City of New York. This race has always been about bringing the city we love back and I will be here to help you in any way that I can.
in my travels I ended up on David Weprin's campaign site and wondered "who is this man?" before realizing with a start IT'S DAVID WEPRIN WITHOUT A MUSTACHE
New Yorkers should be deeply offended by the false labeling of Orthodox Jewish voters as extremists. The language is anti-Semitic, inflammatory, divisive, and flat out wrong.
@commoncauseny
should apologize & hold its leaders accountable for defaming Jewish voters.
Hey
@CommonCause
!
How is it acceptable for the NY chapter Executive Director to refer to Orthodox Jewish New Yorkers as an “extremist bloc”???
You claim to be an organization that promotes “equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all.”
Today the Assembly unanimously adopted my resolution proclaiming March 23, 2019 as
#PakistanDay
in NYS commemorating the independence movement and founding of Pakistan. This act recognizes the diversity of my district and the diversity of our state.
It's time we stand up for hardworking people like my mom, a retired teacher, who've made this the greatest city in the world. I'm running for Comptroller to fight for the middle-class, protect pensions, and solve our fiscal and health crises. Join me:
We must stand together as a community to condemn the attack against Hindu Priest Swami Ji Harish Chander Puri, who was targeted for wearing religious clothing. I believe a hate crime against one of us is a hate crime against all of us.
On Saturday 11/27 - one day before Chanukah - the large menorah at Union Tpke and 220 St was knocked down and its lights broken.
Chanukah is a time of peace and joy. I gathered with civic and religious leaders today to state that no acts of anti-Semitism will ever be tolerated!
Thank you
@ChaimDeutsch
&
@RLEspinal
for advocating for the expansion of the Kosher and Halal food pilot program in
@NYCSchools
. No child should go hungry during the school day. I will continue to advocate for my bill in Albany requiring schools to provide religious food options.
Today I have added my name to the list of plaintiffs filing a lawsuit against the imposition of Congestion Pricing I have been one of the most vocal critics of Congestion Pricing throughout my career in public office. 1/4
Death by incarceration is a crisis in New York's correctional system! As the former Chair of the Correction Committee, I'm proud to sponsor "Fair & Timely Parole" and co-sponsor "Elder Parole". It is vital that we pass both bills this session!
#ParoleJusticeNY
BREAKING: A majority of NY Senators have signed onto Elder Parole! The bill would allow incarcerated older people who’ve served 15+ years a chance for release on a case-by-case basis. It’s time to pass this bill to reunite families and promote safety.
I stood outside the beautiful Tulsi Mandir again today saddened that we were gathered with
@NYCMayorsOffice
and
@JeniferRajkumar
here to condemn the hate crime that has happened. This must stop!
New Yorkers have made their voices heard and I am proud to have
@ericadamsfornyc
as our Democratic nominee. Congratulations on your primary win, I am looking forward to being a partner as we do the work to help the city recover.
Thanks to the Coalition in Opposition to Congestion Pricing for organizing today’s rally. As NYers are still recovering from COVID, they shouldn’t bear the financial burden of an unnecessary tax. That is why I have put forward legislation to delay the start of Congestion Pricing.
I was happy to celebrate the long awaited passage of my bill banning discrimination against religious attire and appearances in the workplace, which was signed by
@NYGovCuomo
on Friday, at the Sikh Cultural Society today.
This was an attack on all Jews and all New Yorkers who wish for peace. I have known the Borgen family for years and I pray for Joseph’s quick recovery. As we begin Shabbat, I call on
@NYCMayor
&
@NYPDnews
to seek out and arrest the perpetrators.
I support
@NYCComptroller
's plan to end our two tiered transit system. A
#Metrocard
should be able to get you anywhere in
#Queens
regardless of the mode you use; whether its bus, subway, or
@LIRR
, I'm glad many of my colleagues were there to support
#transitequity
.
We accomplished a lot this session for working people and families across NY State but we didn't address our unjust parole system. We must pass the Elder Parole and Fair & Timely Parole bills as soon as we reconvene in Albany to promote safety, justice, and healing.
I am appalled to learn that solitary confinement is continuing in NYC under a new name. As Correction Chair, I fought to pass the HALT Solitary Confinement Act out of Committee. I urge the proper enactment of this law to end the torture of solitary confinement, once and for all.
As Chair of the Assembly Cmte. on Correction and co-sponsor of A2500, I support bringing the
#HALTSolitary
bill to a vote when we are back in session. We must stop the use of solitary confinement, which has already been limited in states like New Jersey & Colorado, in NYS prisons
I am deeply saddened by the loss of NYPD Officer Jason Rivera and the critical wounding of Officer Wilbert Mora. I want to express my deepest condolences and prayers to their loved ones.
Several dozen people, staff & inmates, have tested positive for
#Coronavirus
in NYS prisons. We must act now to save lives by releasing the elderly and infirm, ramp up testing for corrections staff, who must be placed on quarantine & explore all other ways to stop the spread.
This weekend,
@michelleinbklyn
wrote about
@AndrewYang
wanting to be the "fun mayor." Well, I won't be a "fun comptroller," but I'm the only one in the race with the experience to get the job done.
#NYCComptroller
It seems absurd that Andrew Yang, with no government experience, could become New York's mayor. But people are responding to his campaign to make the city fun again, writes
@michelleinbklyn

I am absolutely outraged by the acts of hate towards the Jewish community at Bagels & Co. All forms of hate, including anti-semitism, are not welcomed in the World's Borough. I commend these two brave men for stepping and reminding us that we are a community and must stand as one
It is an honor to receive this endorsement from the
@NYDailyNews
. They recognize that I am the only candidate with the experience and the know-how to balance our city’s budget and get us back on track.
Happy Chanukah to everyone celebrating the festival of lights!
May your holiday season be filled with happy moments and lifelong memories. I wish you and your family peace and joy.
Last week my office sponsored a roundtable discussion
@JohnJayCollege
on expanding alternative-to-incarceration (ATI) and reentry services in
#NY
. Too many remain unable to access these services. We have the opportunity to be the first State to bring these services statewide.
Yesterday, the
#NYSAssembly
passed a resolution recognizing Jan. 27, 2019 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It's very important that
#weremember
the Holocaust and continue to speak out against hate in our communities.
As a member of the Assembly Judiciary Committee charged with investigating possible impeachment of the Governor, I pledge to remain unbiased and hear all the facts of the case before making any judgment on impeachment.
Recently I learned of the sudden and unexpected decision to close UNIS Queens. Since then I’ve stood alongside the students, alumni, parents, grandparents, and current and former staff calling to
@SaveUnisQueens
! Thank you all for your advocacy.
I’m heartbroken to learn the passing of former Councilman Paul Vallone. NYC and NYS have lost a great public servant, advocate and champion for Eastern Queens. My heart goes out to his wife Anna-Marie, son Charlie, and daughters Catena and Lea.
I’m glad to co-sponsor a hand sanitizer refill and mask giveaway with some of my colleagues,
@LeroyComrie
,
@LiuNewYork
,
@nily
, and
@BarryGrodenchik
at Cunningham Park. COVID rates are slowly picking up again so remember to wear a mask and sanitize your hands! Stay safe everyone
This must be the year for parole justice. We in the Assembly must pass my Fair & Timely Parole bill to restore the parole board to its original purpose of evaluating people's readiness to return to the community and promote accountability, safety, and healing.
BREAKING: The NY Senate’s Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction just passed the Fair & Timely Parole Act by a vote of 5-2.
Thank you Chair
@JuliaCarmel__
and committee members.
Let’s enact this bill this session.
Onwards!

American Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG) is doing great work during coronavirus pandemic. To date, APAG has managed to deliver over 1,300 grocery packages sufficient for 9,000 people throughout the New York. Glad to partner with them for their food distribution event this week.
I'm happy to join my colleagues, Councilwoman
@AdrienneEAdams
and Democratic Assembly Nominee,
@JeniferRajkumar
, to hear the concerns of the many Indo-Caribbean and South Asian owned small businesses in Richmond Hill. Small businesses are a vital part of the character of our
Yesterday's violent attack in Richmond Hill against a member of the Sikh community is sickening. I stand in solidarity with my colleagues and neighbors in the Sikh, South Asian, and East Asian communities to denounce any and all acts of hate.
I was proud to stand with
@RAPPcampaign
today and present a proclamation to Bobby Ehrenberg. Now it’s time to pass Elder Parole and Fair & Timely Parole.
I'm leading a coalition of 57 elected officials to urge
@NYCMayor
to protect homeowners and delay the city's annual tax and water lien sale as the
#COVID19
crisis continues.
Now is the time to support hardworking homeowners, not saddle them with more financial hardship.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) has implemented a new Statewide policy restricting the rights of incarcerated individuals to receive packages from loved ones. Our response ⬇️⬇️⬇️
A Congestion tax would be disastrous for Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island residents. New York cannot burden the backs of these other borough working and middle class residents, already struggling with the rising costs of living, with a new congestion tax.
#NoCongestionTax

@NYPDnews
officers make up 19 percent of the City's
#pension
funds and deserve to be at the table in securing our financial future. I want to be a
#NYCComptroller
for all pensioners. Thanks to
@TheRockawayWave
for running my oped on the topic.
We must condemn every instance of Antisemitism. I joined
@TheQJCC
, my government colleagues, and many
#Queens
community members in
#KewGardensHills
to denounce acts of hate. Antisemitism has no place in our society.
Our airport workers are on the front lines of the threat posed by Coronavirus and any other public health emergency. Glad to support the
#HealthyTerminalsAct
to provide these workers with healthcare.
"Now, with the prospect of coming into contact with an increasing number of people traveling from places where the
#coronavirus
is spreading, our fight for health care is literally a fight for our lives." We need the
#HealthyTerminalsAct
!
My bill, A4204 The Religious Garb Bill, prohibiting discrimination against religious attire passed the Assembly today. It ensures no one is forced to choose between adhering to their religious beliefs and earning a living. It is being carried by
@LiuNewYork
in the Senate.
Thank you for your endorsement, Councilman
@ChaimDeutsch
! Brooklyn families and taxpayers are lucky to have a representative in you, and I'm grateful to have your support in my race for Comptroller.
New York’s middle class families and small businesses cannot afford congestion pricing in any form. Glad to join
@BarryGrodenchik
and
@LeroyComrie
to declare our opposition to the Fix NYC tolling plan.
COVID-19 has been devastating to NYC’s hospitality industry, particularly to mom-and-pop owned restaurants. I’m proud to stand with
@QueensChamber
,
@theNYCalliance
, and many restaurant owners and advocates to urge the City to permit limited capacity indoor dining
I stand with
@DOEChancellor
. He has brought dynamic leadership to
@NYCschools
& has not shied away from visiting schools across the city & opening up dialogues with students, parents, & leaders. He is working to provide all NYC children with an excellent & equitable education.
The decision reached by the jury in the
#GeorgeFloyd
trial was the right one. Justice is served but Mr. Floyd's family is still grieving. I join all New Yorkers in wishing for a peaceful end to this chapter.
Thank you to all the community members and elected officials who joined me at my annual summer
#BBQ
yesterday. I am grateful to have the opportunity to show you my appreciation and it continues to be a pleasure to be your Assemblyman.
Amazing day celebrating the enactment of the Adoptee Bill of Rights with Sen. Velmenatte Montgomery, Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter, Assemblyman Bobby Carroll & all of our supporters in Albany. Glad that we were able to Get it Right and Make it Equal for New York's Adult Adoptees.
NY has lagged behind other states on allowing
#adoptees
access to records. My clean bill of adoptee rights will give them the basic human right of unrestricted access to original birth certificates. Glad to have
@NYARC
,
@unsealedny
,
@bastardnation
, &
@nyadopteerights
in support.
I am proud to have been able to help deliver N95 masks donated by the Greater New York Automobile Association today to
@NYCHealthSystem
in Queens along with Acting Borough President Sharon Lee.
I also got to briefly visit the new COVID-19 testing site that our office helped
It was a great Town Hall meeting yesterday at the Boys and Girls club of Richmond Hill. Thank you to

@JeniferRajkumar
and everyone for your faith in me.
This morning, I attended the Young Israel of New Hyde Park’s reunion of three Holocaust survivors Abe Rosenberg, Michael Epstein, and Ada Gracin after 76 years. It was a moving program and a reminder that we cannot forget the horrors that occurred.
My campaign is about making New York City a better place to live, work and raise a family. I'm ready to put my private and public sector finance experience to work and help solve the worst fiscal crisis in the history of our city in over 100 years.
I joined the UFT & teachers of Cardozo High School to call on the city to delay in person instruction until we are sure we can provide a safe environment and adequate staffing this fall. NYC DOE must be certain that each school is clean, well-staffed, and well-equipped.
Who says protests don't work? I was there and I am honored to have played even a small role in making this a reality. Thank you to all the men and women at
@804_local
for their tireless efforts these past few weeks. Way to go!

I was proud to support the inclusion of legislation that eliminates Insulin co-pays in the NYS budget. This will not only improve the health of millions of New Yorkers, but will also help close the health equity gap, and lower long-term healthcare costs.
