@BeschlossDC
Your feed is an interesting reflection of history in its own right. Ten years ago, it was a fun, well-curated stream of interesting historical facts and photos. Now, it’s laser-focused on saving our democracy.

plays such an important role, by always appealing to the best parts of us. A constant reminder that we can all strive to be funny, caring, and good to others. Such a mensch!!!

OMG! Most were awful, especially Wean Hall and Cyert Hall at CMU. I spent 20 years in Wean Hall surrounded by cinder block walls. Those years were wonderful because of my amazing colleagues, but the cinder blocks still trigger the occasional PTSD episode.

K&R is the best example of technical writing, and the inspiration for my textbook with Randy Bryant: “Computer Systems: A Programmer’s Perspective (third edition), 2015.
They are in totally different and very unrelated fields but you can tell they genuinely learnt about it regardless. This is the style that'll have you bouncing your head every Sunday morning 💕

I know you have to deal with numerous Twitter trolls, but I just wanted to let you know that your typing is really good, as are your pods. Both provide me with much entertainment. Way better than the conventional golf media. I think you’re on to something good.

will be long remembered as a freedom fighter. Who saw evil at its core and spoke out against. Taking risks to heal the country he has unconditional love for.

Jerry is one of my favorite Twitter feeds. Has he ever told you about the “Rolling Turd” expedition? It’s one of the funniest set of tweets ever. I still smile when I think about it years later.
Derek, consider Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood: Wilkins Ave, 2Br, 1ba, 1500 sqft, dry basement, $1600/mo. Walkable to CMU, UPitt, Oakland, Squirrel Hill, and Shadyside. Plus, you could teach me how to dress! I need it!
if i made five figures a month off twitter, do you think i'd be renting a tiny apartment and complaining about how i can't afford to buy a home in a walkable neighborhood??
I did the same experiment and got the same results. A CMU colleague calls LLMs like ChatGPT “blarney generators”. Expect the blarney to get worse as LLMs train on more and more LLM-generated content (model collapse).
Just tried an AI chatbot. Asked it a scientific question about a field about which I know little. It gave a credible-sounding answer. I then asked something about which I am knowledgable. The answer demonstrated that the AI had absolutely no idea what it was talking about.

140 yds into a gale force wind. Hit 3wd right on the pin. Stopped 1 inch away. I was praying the whole time it wouldn’t go in. Would never have lived down the announcement in the paper.
Lot of Paul Skenes content going around today. Here’s a feature I turned from last year’s MLB draft on Skenes’ time at Air Force and LSU, including some crazy stories about his work ethic and habits. Very much atypical for a college kid:

Your live tweeting of the disastrous family cross-country RV trip is one of the greatest Twitter threads ever. Such grace under pressure. Still makes me laugh.
@AlanShipnuck
The new checkout icon is distracting and annoying. It blocks out some of the text. Any chance this could be moved out of the way? Say on the black bar at the top?
@JMackeyPG
While I got a kick out of your ad read for SS&F, I was blown away by your truly inspirational and moving story on Paul Skenes. Really good work. Thought it deserved a national audience.
In a Galton board, beads bounce off pegs as they fall with an equal chance of going left or right.
Beads accumulate in the middle as there are more paths that lead here, similar to how many random events in nature tend to cluster around an average.
@acaseofthegolf1
It’s pretty clear after the coverage the past few days that “Golf Channel”
is a misnomer. It should be called the “PGA TOUR” channel. What a joke.
@billbarnwell
Serious question: whatever happened to the ritual of bringing out the chains to measure for first down? I don’t think I’ve seen one all weekend, even though there have been lots of close calls.
@AlanShipnuck
Golf Channel did include the LIV golfers in the graphics for the Thursday groupings. But other than that, they never mentioned the LIV golfers during the “Live From” telecasts, and never interviewed them, as far as I could tell. As though DJ, PR, and Louis weren’t on site.

Rex has astutely tapped into the key idea idea underlying 12-step programs: help others by sharing your worst experiences, so that they realize they are not “terminally unique.”
@ESPNBooger
Yes! So glad to hear you say this! Claims of Mr. Irrelevant and game manager are just lazy takes. Please stop! As you correctly observe, he’s a playmaker.
