Pioneer is legitimately the worst format I've ever played. And I've played it since the very beginning.
No, it's not a "skill-intensive format". It's a format that's needed bannings for over a year now. It's stale, lopsided, and a format most Magic players agree is unfun.

Then one asks, “if I attack, would you block?” The other agrees, and they traded their Eidolons.

should unban Simian Spirit Guide.
Printing Fury/Solitude/Endurance/Subtlety made SSG appropriate for Modern.
Combo decks have been on a downtrend and they’re the best answer to 4C Moneypile/Elementals.

This is consistent with long term data, which indicates Scam puts up 2x the results of the second most popular deck.

The format stinks. There's no Burn deck. You cannot interact with the combo decks. It's an unbalanced mess.

Personally, I find little to no enjoyment playing vs. Scam or Cascade in Modern. These archetypes are the only decks capable of operating similar to Legacy decks.
The games feel predetermined based on the Scam or Cascade player's hands. Not an enjoyable experience, imo.

Played at the LGS today. People were taking Modern and one person kept mentioning they played Death & Taxes. Two players asked what deck is Death & Taxes. Another player asked what does the card Death & Taxes do? Almost like it’s a terrible name for a deck.

I think mono Green is [still] far and away the best deck in Pioneer. The only reason it’s not more apparent is because the deck isn’t appealing to most players—who somewhat prioritize fun gameplay over MW% (myself included). Maybe that’s fine, maybe not. Not my call obv.

At my last RC I walked my opponent through my Grinning Ignus combo, step-by-step, while they acknowledged everything. Then when they realized it was lethal, I literally watched the wheels turn in this man’s brain as he formulated a story to tell to the judge he was going to call.
