@RobLaurensonD4P
I am a hospital consultant paediatrician. Many colleagues and I do not accept referrals from PAs unless countersigned by GPs. Unfortunately we are vilified for this and are accused of not being team players by some GPs
@Dr_Done_
I was asked by a PA student to recommend a good prescribing course. I replied MBChB. Any PA's journey towards prescribing should be via a medical school. No compromises should be entertained here
Indeed! The BMA is offering a year's free membership to new arrivals in the country, so we'll just embrace them all into our fold and secure a fair deal for them and us
Having failed to break our NHS doctors with its lies, bullying & intimidation the Government now resorts to this. It simply won’t work because our NHS heroes have a courage & determination & a love & respect from the public which
@SteveBarclay
could never understand
Jeez. Rishi Sunak has given an interview filled with enough bull**** to fertilize a field - and apparently he “wants to be PM to restore trust!”
Watch in disbelief (or despair)
OK. Let’s talk about respect.
6 years of gruelling academic study at med school, only to be paid £11K less than our assistants, doing TTOs and bloods while they are trained up way beyond their intended scope, just because it’s easier that way.

It is illegal to falsely use the protected titles below:
doctor of medicine
general practitioner (GP)
surgeon
physician
licentiate in medicine and surgery
bachelor of medicine
apothecary, or
any name, title, or description implying that they are registered with us- GMC
@veggieequallife
You must have been so tempted to tell them where to go! I'm so glad I don't have to go through such experiences. As long as I'm working such won't happen to my trainees.
@Dr_Done_
@FrimleyHealth
In other news, there aren't enough pilots, so we're going to ask anyone who feeps like having a go at piloting aircraft to have a go
@BMA_James_Steen
I agree, MAPs should be regulated by the HCPC like all other allied healthcare professionals. If the GMC is forced to regulate them, the register should be absolutely separate and the register entries should include supervising consultant/GP's name
@RaggedTP
Why not distribute the Queen's personal wealth amongst those who need food banks? The King certainly doesn't need it and it's very like what she'd have wanted
@drmattuk
Sorry Matt, although I support many of your views, I cannot support this as 1. I cannot bring myself to urge the GMC to be more 'thought polive like' than they already are (allegedly) and 2. I strongly believe in the freedom of speech as a fundamental human right.
@Bonivorlewis
@Dr_Done_
Nope. I've met several bright PA students and have encouraged them all to do medicine properly instead. One has indeed taken my advice and has joined medicine (grad entry)
“The Birmingham Children's Hospital liver unit provides specialist advice to hospitals across a third of the country and the hospital's NHS trust accepted the PA in the liver unit gave advice to doctors calling in to them.”

Well said. Unless we the PRCP withdraws her statement and apollogises, the Fellows and Members of the RCP(Lon) should consider whether their President speaks for them and whether she continues to have their confidence
@DrOKaneAgain
@rclondon
@DrSarahClarke
@rcphysicians
have colluded with Government plans to conflate doctors with PAs for a long time. They should change their name to Royal College of Physicians and PAs. If my fellowship was with them, I'd resign. Thankfully neither of my colleges are doing this
@wesstreeting
@UKLabour
Recruiting more without retaining staff will be like trying to fill a bathtub by opening the tap further without putting the bathplug in
@BMA_James_Steen
I am wondering the same
@BMA_James_Steen
! I have taken advice from BCH 'Liver Reg' on many occasions and never thought to question the credentials of the person I was speaking to. I will in future of course
@Dr_Done_
@RCoANews
Sadly we, (BMA, Royal Colleges, HEE etc.) have sleepwalked to where we are. If sufficient numbers of us wake up and act, this can all be reversed
@parthaskar
@RCPhysicians
Thank you for our excellent work in so many areas including Type 1DM, anti-discrimination, and in the area of PAs. Is there any way you can askto see the paper teail that led to the creation of the Chapter of PAs in the RCP? Surely there mist be council minutes, emails etc.
@TomStocks1982
@sabpNHS
I'd simply file this in the circular filing cabinet and forget about it. The bosses who've signed this need to reflect on their actions and once realisation hits, hang their heads in shame
@BBCLauraKT
Grant Shapps once said on live TV that he had taken advice from MRSA regarding COVID 19. Obviously it was probably a slip of the tongue and he actually meant MHRA, but if it wasn't a slip of the tongie, it will explain a lot!
The key message is not that PAs are overpaid, but doctors are woefully underpaid. In my (not so humble) opinion in the newly qualified doctors' salaries should be at least 1.6 times of PAs
@DrNickTwit
@trentconsultant
I'm an LNC chair, and would love to get my teeth into something like this. We simply cannot treat the next generation of doctors like this
@PoliticsJOE_UK
@jeremycorbyn
Just imagine, if the Labour MPs and officials hadn't scuppered it, Jeremy would've been PM in 2017. Biggest lost opportunity of the century
@PeterStefanovi2
@SteveBarclay

@drcolinm
@Dr_Done_
Like Beauty consultants, Electrical consultants etc. However, the standalone designation of consultant and use of the term as a prefix (consultant surgeon, consultant physician etc.) MUST be reserved for medical practitioners with specialist registration.
Have you noticed that it’s always consultants who are against striking. People who didn’t have £9000 a year fees, people who have a house already (and perhaps a second), and who often have tidy private practice side gigs. Plus, ignoring the evidence that strikes don’t cause harm
@timricketts_
So an unregulated, unaccountable person threatens GMC referral and we take it lying down? What have we become as a profession? If anyone has any concerns about a licensed doctor they should go ahead and make the referral. GMC referral should never be used as a tool for blackmail
@huddartaj
Now here's an idea for the CD; Start treating your juniors fairly, stand up for them and ensure that they are rewarded well. Very likely you'll watch rota gaps fill with substantive colleagues and the overspend diminish
So, let me summarise; you've thrown Billions at Tory donors for substandard PPE, throwing billions away perpetuating non-dom status, uncapped the Bankers' bonuses and because those aren't working, want to steal wages of public sector workers?
