Junior doctors in Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to strike for full pay restoration. Our ballot had a 71.5% turnout, with a 97% yes vote. A huge mandate for strike action in Scotland. In one year, we have transformed our union. We have won the first ever @BMAScotland ballot

Disgraceful to be charging this much for an exam. We want doctors to be qualified and capable, but we provide them with limited study leave, poor or non-existent training and then expect them to pick up the bill for progression. Unacceptable and needs to change.

In the US, a c-section costs a patient on average $19,620 … In the UK, it's free. Without proper investment in the NHS, and its staff, that is where we are headed. It is a false economy to hand highly skilled workers 30% pay cuts. It will hurt us all.

Porters, ANs, cleaners and care staff should absolutely be given the same access to cheap good quality food. But so should doctors on 14£ an hour.

Keep seeing the argument that the 'other health unions' including nurses have accepted pay deals. No they haven't. They are balloting members whether to accept or not. Most of these ballots seem likely to fail. The UK government is unable to get anything across the line.

. @scotgov negotiated with @BMAScotland until 1am 5 days prior to any strike action taking place. We agreed a multi-year pay deal that progresses doctors (within the restricted context of a devolved health budget) towards full pay restoration. @VictoriaAtkins can do the same.

Criminal barristers are going on indefinite strike from today. They were offered a 15% increase in fees but propose 25%. Those they are dedicated to representing will directly come to harm. There will be a high moral cost in withdrawing legal representation for the vulnerable. 1/

I’m not against changes to CST, and not against these specific changes. What I am against is announcing them 1 week before the application opens. It takes years to prepare a portfolio, the changing of the goalposts so close to the finishing line is an absolute disgrace.

It’s not a stalemate produced by ‘both parties’ though is it. It is clearly @SteveBarclay who is refusing to negotiate. @AoMRC must do better than emollient statements which apportion blame equally between doctors and government. Junior doctors deserve better.
