It reveals the unspoken pressures we’ve normalized in modern life. The early years of parenting are a crucible where old and new expectations clash. The idea that we can do this alone, without extended family or community support, is a modern assumption.
@MattWalshBlog
Calling leaders 'wicked' reduces the complexity of our political and cultural evolution to mere moral demonization. While their policies can be debated, real progress demands that we move beyond name-calling to engage in a constructive conversation about our future.
@chrislhayes
Big ego? It’s in the presidential job description, but it's not the size that matters. It's what you do with it that counts. Letting go? Now that takes skill!
OUR YARD SIGN: In This House We Believe • Everyone has a piece of the truth • Left and Right are interdependent • Opposing values can be integrated • Culture and consciousness co-evolve • People grow by expanding what they value • America will grow into a better version of

Calling these things “imaginary” may make you feel like a "philosophical grownup" who bravely sees through illusions. But denying the reality of things that are significantly impacting the evolution of the universe is a reductionistic fallacy causing damage to our culture.
Emerson’s insight, that “every natural fact is a symbol of some spiritual fact,” reveals the connection between exterior physical energy and interior ‘value energy.’ In fact, ‘the good’ in itself can be most accurately conceived of as an upward current of perfecting energy.
Philosopher Evan Thompson critiques the foundational assumption of neuroscience that “the mind is in the brain.” Writing: “It’s like saying that flight is inside the wings of a bird. … You need a brain, just as the bird needs wings, but the mind exists at a different level.”
Toward the end of his life, Maslow amended his theory of needs by adding a level above self-actualization, which he labeled “self-transcendence”—the ultimate human need “is to go beyond our ordinary human level of consciousness and experience oneness with the greater whole . . .”
Process philosopher Alfred North Whitehead defined evolution overall as: *an increase in the capacity to experience what is intrinsically valuable.* This consciousness-centric definition of evolution remains one of my favorite ideas in all philosophy.

Because nothing says 'winning strategy' like swapping out policy for playlists and hoping a golf handicap distracts from real issues. If only charisma could replace substance, we’d all be saved by wardrobe changes and family anecdotes.

The far left and far right eventually meet in the same spot. That spot is rigid fundamentalism, which is both energizing AND is ungovernable and unable to lead.

"Steelmanning" is a good sign. When we can articulate the other side’s strongest points, we cultivate intellectual humility and bridge the very divides that keep us stuck in tribalism.
Philosopher David Ray Griffin: “We are attracted to Beauty, Truth, and Goodness because these values are entertained appetitively by the Eros of the universe, whose appetites we feel.” This is how evolution progresses in the internal universe by “gentle persuasion through love.”
Progressive culture can only fully emerge and take root within societies that are both relatively wealthy and free—conditions created by the success of modernism. Without modernity’s collective prosperity and personal liberties, progressivism is culturally unsustainable.
Developmental psychologist Robert Kegan defines integral consciousness as: “the capacity to see conflict as a signal of our overidentification with a single system.” In other words, dialectical thinking moves iteratively back and forth toward dynamic integration.
Integral philosopher Sri Aurobindo also saw how evolution moves toward intrinsic value, by attracting consciousness at every level “from the inside.” In his epic poem Savitri he wrote: “The infinite holds the finite in its arms, time travels towards revealed eternity.”
@RonFilipkowski
What’s fascinating here is the way Trump’s followers have rationalized their allegiance as patriotism when, in fact, it's more about the security of group identity.
Definition: Worldviews are coherent sets of values and ideals that persists across multiple generations—large-scale cultural agreements about what is good, true, and beautiful. They give meaning to reality and provide identity. They are the “basic units” of cultural evolution.
If you are trying to address the culture war using polarities but without a developmental/dialectical understanding, you are trying to fix a 4 Dimensional problem with 3 Dimensional tools.
1. Consciousness can't be boiled down to just computation. The human experience is shaped by Qualia—the interior experience of what it's like to be human.
Clare W. Graves said each stage of consciousness is best adapted to its life conditions. But he also wrote “higher levels are better than lower levels and that the prime good of any society's governing figures should be to promote human movement up the levels of human existence"
Our developmental perspective is founded on a “New Truth,” which is now becoming increasingly evident:
Culture and consciousness coevolve.
This emerging evolutionary perspective illuminates political solutions and reveals how America can grow into a better version of itself.
We are the agents of evolution in the noosphere, and its further progress depends on us. As we awaken to our role as agents of evolution’s progress, this reveals humanity’s transcendent higher purpose: We are the bearers of the universe’s teleology—our purposes are its purposes.
Although every infant begins life with the same basic form of biological “human nature,” the extent to which their consciousness develops is largely determined by the culture in which they are raised. Human nature itself thus evolves through the evolution of human culture.
As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin wrote: “The Universal and personal grow in the same direction and culminate simultaneously in each other.” Each life expresses this principle through its microcosmic, self-similar enactment of the entire process of the evolving universe as a whole.
@SalomeSibonex
Yes! The rigid stereotypes enforced by the Left's identity politics reflect postmodernism’s darker side—a quest for ideological purity that paradoxically alienates the very diversity it claims to celebrate.

A sobering example of how a person operating from the Warrior Leader stage of development can exploit people in a Traditional system that has lost it’s orientation.
Integral philosopher Charles Johnston: Don’t “confuse integration with some additive middle ground, the task is not to split the difference between truth’s two hands. Rather, reveal the rich spectrum of colors that lies beyond black and white, surpassing varying shades of grey.”
Beauty appears in every domain of evolution across micro and macro scales: The beauty of a snowflake or a spiral galaxy, the beauty of a butterfly or a tiger, the beauty of a child’s drawing or a mature artist’s masterpiece, all attest to evolution’s creation of intrinsic value.
Americans do well to counterbalance patriotic pride with a degree of progressive shame for our historical misdeeds. But if we fail to adequately value America’s achievements—together with the achievements of the modern world as a whole—we imperil our society’s future.
As Plato understood more than two thousand years ago: “The states are as the men are; they grow out of human characters.” Therefore, in order to overcome the fractious and frozen condition of contemporary American politics, we need to improve and evolve the electorate itself.
@RichardDawkins
Darwinism does not provide a complete explanation of our origins. It does not explain the Big Bang, the original emergence of life, or the emergence of human consciousness. Given what we know now, pretending that it does amounts to the equivalent of a religious belief system!
Overcoming hyperpolarization begins by shining a fresh light on the bedrock values at the root of America’s political conflicts. While focusing on values is necessarily philosophical, evolving our political philosophy is one of the most pragmatic things we can do.

The “ah ha” moment of cultural intelligence comes when we realize that all 3 major American worldviews include values that we need. When we affirm the full spectrum of positive American values, we literally raise our own consciousness

You’re tapping into a fundamental tension—how can we expect young people to build families when they’re struggling to believe in the future we’ve handed them? It’s not just the cost of living or the state of the planet; it’s a crisis of hope.
Progressive culture rejects modernity and traditionalism, but it still represents an important evolutionary emergence. So instead of opposing it, we need to affirm its upsides, while resisting its downsides. Using “cultural intelligence,” we can take the best and leave the worst.
Integral philosopher Henri Bergson was among the first to understand the vital role of the evolutionary impulse, writing: “Consciousness appears as the motivating principle of evolution.” It drives development and results in “the mobility of the real.”
Warrior consciousness is a "stubbornly persistent remnant of a cultural worldview that exists in the timeline of history before Traditionalism." Steve shows

how a developmental worldview explains poverty across racial lines more accurately than the postmodern view.
Evolution works through us as we strive to make the world a better place. Which is why the concept of “more evolved” cannot be disconnected from the concept of “more valuable.” As eminent philosopher Holmes Rolston writes: “There is value wherever there is positive creativity.”
You don’t have to be a Christian to appreciate a Beatitude on Easter morning: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” I think “thirsting for righteousness” can also be understood as our “eros for the good, true, and beautiful.”
Philosopher Mary Midgley “The theory of evolution isn’t just an inert piece of theoretical science. It’s a powerful folk-tale about our origins, the creation myth of our age. It shapes our views of what we are. It influences not just our thought, but our feelings and actions too”
@IAmPoliticsGirl
This is a healthy example of a modern stage of development dismantling a pre-modern ego stage which typically manifests in Warrior Leaders (Putin, Trump) and 3 to 6-year-olds. We must continue carving out spaces where mutual respect and strong disagreement can co-exist.
Progressivism is the most evolved form of culture that has yet to appear in the timeline of human history. But as it emerges, its pathologies are becoming more evident. Hopefully, these very pathologies can spur us to evolve further—from antithesis to a reconciling synthesis. …

AND they are playing right back into the binary. All of their efforts to be inclusive of the weird and non-conventional are thrown out the window to be artificially conventional. Can we rewind back to accepting the weird in everyone, please?

The values of traditionalism—stability, community, and continuity—are vital in any evolving society. However, tying them exclusively to a nostalgic vision of the 'Southern Bourbons' overlooks the dynamic process through which healthy tradition adapts.
Serving an ideal of Transcendence—used as an umbrella term for genuine greater-than-self-interest—is necessary for personal happiness and self-actualization. Realizing an enlarged ideal of Transcendence that can unite a majority of Americans is the key to our political evolution.
My new Video, "How to Overcome Political Polarization in 5-Minutes,” explains how skillfully managing the polarity between liberal values and conservative values can build agreement and produce meaningful political progress.
@gtconway3d
You’re pointing out something bigger than just the irony of playing Ave Maria at a political rally. It highlights how campaigns use cultural symbols to invoke deeper, often conflicting values.
Cultivating the further evolution of consciousness and culture is humanity’s transcendent purpose. As eminent polymath Michael Polanyi wrote, “The theory of evolution finally bursts through the bounds of natural science and becomes entirely an affirmation of man’s ultimate aims.”
The “ah ha” moment of cultural intelligence comes when we realize that all three major American worldviews include values that we need. When we affirm the full spectrum of positive American values, we literally raise our own consciousness.
Proto-integral philosopher G.W.F. Hegel discerned evolution’s movement toward intrinsic value early on, writing: “The truth is merely the dialectical movement.” Hegel saw how the “physics of value” configures the structure of evolutionary emergence at every level.
@Helenreflects
At post-mythic levels of spiritual development, prayer is increasingly approached not as a method for changing the mind of God but rather as a method for changing the character of the practitioner.
@ElijahSchaffer
Human history is the universe’s greatest art. And like all art, it can be revised and reinterpreted. But revising history's original art for ideologically-motivated purposes creates a form of kitsch that not only insults the truth, it insults the art of history itself.

As a move toward solipsism, AI girlfriends (and boyfriends) will cause spiritual decay in our society. But like so many other developments in history, that very decay may lead to a new kind of spiritual renewal as the value of personal authenticity is vivified.
@RpsAgainstTrump
Politicians keep using chaos and confusion because the cultural environment allows it. What’s necessary now is a collective evolution—one that disempowers these tactics at the core by fostering a more conscious electorate capable of demanding integrity and transparency.
@ThomasSowell
The root issue isn't simply education but the imbalance between cultural stages. Modernism’s achievements are dismissed by postmodern critiques, leading to a failure in recognizing each stage's contributions. To evolve, we must integrate these stages, fostering a society where

Interesting to see Modernity’s systems pushback on Progressivism’s zeal to over-solve. Hopefully, we can continue to bring forward the positive values of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion while avoiding the spirit of authoritarian implementation.

Each vote reveals our stage of consciousness, but let's be clear—our character is defined by our capacity for higher values, not by tribal allegiance. The real corruption lies in justifying any means to achieve our ends, regardless of the vote.

Western leaders also don't understand that a hierarchical system, that publicizes its power, keeps at bay the pathologies of the warrior tyrant leader. As hard as it is to admit, a hierarchical society is more inclusive than the self-gratifying warrior leader drunk on power.

Criticizing bad policy would mean that they would have to re-enter the world of modern liberalism, but they are moving in a regressive direction, developmentally. It may seem counter intuitive, but the way back for the far right is to find God again (good religion).

Top 4 reasons why you are still poor:
1) You believe wealth isn’t for you
2) You avoid taking risks
3) You start but don’t finish
4) You chase things that don’t align with your values
Based on the pattern of the spiral, we can predict that the next values-based worldview that emerges after the integral (post-progressive) worldview will be a communally oriented character that contrasts with the more individualistically oriented nature of the integral stage.

Kemp demonstrates the dignity of traditional value system integrating with the modern justice system to hem in the flailing of an ego-centric warrior leader. We'll see if it works.

Each stage in our cultural ecosystem stands for a basic truth

Yes, Americans are realizing the performative nature of politics. The real challenge is to create a vision that transcends partisan divides while honoring underlying values.
Here is my reflection on the campus protests, observing the interplay between the protestors' mixed motivations, which include both worldcentric morality and ethnocentric morality.
