Ugh, these sorts of arguments are so bogus. I get the attempt is to help people let go of inner monologues that cause suffering, but the end result of taking this Buddhist modernist neuroscientism seriously is not less suffering, it’s nihilism.

Not a Marxist but I'm digging Tomba's "Insurgent Universality" so far (just started it on a student's recommendation). The study of history with an eye to all the could have beens, to the penumbra of latent possibilities, seems to me to be a good way to shape the future.

American civilization has collapsed. We now exist “between stories.” No one, especially kids, believes in the old story, but we lack an alternative. Fascists are rising to fill the the vacuum. The lack of a viable meta myth is driving us mad, making us kill earth & each other.

@RepBoebert Oil jobs are self-terminating jobs. Pipelines are the fastest way to extract fossil fuel from the earth and convert it into CO2 emissions. Boebert would rather burn the entire planet down than upset her Big Oil funders.

“We have no serious reason for thinking things are not made in the same rhythm as that in which our experience unfolds them. On the contrary, that rhythm may very well disclose to us the fundamental texture of Spirit.” -Teilhard de Chardin (Writings in Time of War, 162)

Has anyone gotten further than Whitehead in “Concept of Nature” (1920) on these questions? Seems like folks are still spinning wheels b/c of the bifurcation of nature. Goff isn’t wrong but Whitehead’s way still allows us to say nature is closed to mind.
