Have yet to comb through the manuscripts but I suspect I will be changing how I counsel patients. Agree with @JordanBloomMD: reop vs anticoagulants is one thing, dying sooner is a whole different matter

@Prasannasimha @rbarbosa91 Thatโs exactly why I spoke up. Not even all cardiac centers have this Gundry-type retrograde cardioplegia catheter. So the principal remains the same as for access for massive resuscitation: widest, shortest tube you can put into a venous structure

@RakanINazer Agree ๐ฏ. For non-repairable aortic valve disease in the under 50, I try to steer them away from tissue prosthetic towards either mechanical or Ross depending on the case

It was standard practice for many peripheral arterial cases when I rotated through their service and I learned how to do it as well

I wonโt be doing an ED thoracotomy any time soon but nice figure demonstrating the exposure you get with different thoracic incisions
Is clamshell the incision of choice for an ED thoracotomy? ๐๐ผ fantastic color-coded visualization showing what you CAN & CANNOT access w/ different incision types: Thanks for sharing @bryanacotton1
