🔎Reading through #txlege filed bills: @AndyHopperTX just filed #HB2657 which proposes to abolish the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and eliminate the position of the Commissioner of Education, transferring its powers and duties to the State Board of Education (SBOE) and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Under this bill, SBOE would assume all non-financial education responsibilities, while the Comptroller would oversee public school finance, including administration of the Foundation School Program. The bill repeals all statutory references to the TEA, the Commissioner of Education, and public school accountability and assessment systems, effectively eliminating standardized testing requirements and public school accountability ratings. Additionally, any state-appointed monitors, conservators, or boards of managers assigned to school districts under accountability interventions would be removed. The bill’s provisions would take effect on September 1, 2025, and the TEA would be required to complete the transfer of responsibilities to SBOE and the Comptroller by December 1, 2025. Bill:
