90% (or higher) of people have no freaking clue what the actual rules are!!

As Head/Associate Head Coach, there were players that backstabbed me, didn’t think I was very good, or just flat out didn’t like me.
As Assistant Coach, it’s pretty close to 100% of players that still like me.

I’ll never recruit just to win AAU games. Did enough successful recruiting at a real level, don’t have any desire to do it for AAU.

College player trainings yesterday reminded me I meant to post this.
Mostly new players, so kept it similar as week 1 due to vacations. Will have 15+ in July and will be able to build and add scrimmaging/defense.
They are working, and enjoying the tempo and intensity😤

My favorite was FT Rotate. Because we got a lot of FTs in a short amount of time, it’s competitive, and was our water breaks so we never stopped practice for water.
Broke college program record 4 yrs in a row.

Not gonna lie, when people say AAU should only be for “elite” players, it triggers me🤬👊
My daughter, not an elite player, only plays AAU for me. Knew it had been better for her mental health. Had no idea the complete positive impact it had on her till she read me her speech❤️

This doesn’t shock me. Nebraska is known for their big cities and unlimited financial resources.
So no doubt they have the enormous amount of money and workers needed to cover running a HS shot clock!
I just feel bad for poor states, and those with rural towns in it😔

Coaches, check your BLOB PPP. You might be shocked. Only 4/10 teams in our conf had BLOB PPP > reg PPP.

Pisses me off when I hear people say D3s “just need bodies” or “they’ll take anybody”. It’s a slap in the face of D3 players + coaches. Coached in both MBB + WBB D3 NCAA tourney. We worked our butts off recruiting the best players. Many were all-conf, all-state, 1K scorers
Too many people underestimate the commitment level of D3 athletics.
These are recruited athletes, not walk-ons.
A high academic D3 asst. coach told us this:
<2% of student-athletes who've played for their program have come to school without a guaranteed roster spot.

PSA for Parents: Know you’ve seen it before, so just reiterating. AAU coaches trying to win games don’t realize they could be costing kids scholarship $. Tough for college coaches to evaluate HS players while they stand in zone D. Think about that when choosing an AAU program.

Good coaches (NOT impacted by W’s) need support!
But if parents win lawsuits about playing time + roster management, it makes having coaches irrelevant. Just let parents run the programs, like youth sports

Watched 3rd Grade Championship of Boys league I’m commissioner of. No zone. No trapping outside of 3-pt line to allow for help defense inside. What a good game because of it!! They passed. Most kids got shots up. Young kids would benefit SO much if this was a nationwide rule!

I say something similar to the players about shooting. Make 150 shots/day = 1,050 makes/week = 54,600 makes/year. Don’t you think if you make over 50K shots a year it’ll change your game? And honestly, when broken down, that’s not a ton of work
What you could accomplish if you dedicated 10 min a day to one specific thing? Take ball handling for example. 10 min a day for an entire month. That’s 300 minutes. 5 hours.
Think about it. 5 hours of ball handling could change your game.

Last year our 8th grade girls lost to a team by 20. I mean we got crushed, only scoring 16 pts🥴
Most of them trained year round with us.
This year they played that same team. Won by 7 and scored 59🔥

Another 8-8 year. I’ve been saying it for a while now. Go back and fact check it. Playing in 1 AFC Championship Game in 9 years is worst stretch since the Dark Times of the 80’s. But they didn’t have a HOF QB back then. Standard is the standard I guess🤷🏼♂️

If you want to keep believing defense wins championships in basketball, that’s fine. But the Gonzaga-WVU game tonight was perfect example of how hard it is to beat a great offensive team. WVU beat them up, made it a Halfcourt game for 30 min, and Gonzaga still scored 87 and won🤷🏼♂️

Last of 25 fall practices today. Players said it was best part of their day. Wish Govt leaders locking things down could see players faces when they were told we had to end practices 2 wk early😢 Gotta be a better way than to continually force young people to sacrifice for this.

So we tweaked Ironman Drill. Instead of taking a charge being involved, we focus on these winning plays/culture: Dive for loose ball (+ picking teammates up), save loose ball (bench engaged + celebrates), winning basket = winning team celebration🥳 11th + 8th 1st time doing it👏

Age 7. Just started shooting. Been making 100 shots/day on 8 ft hoop behind him for 3 wks. Each wk he progresses & increases the makes he wants on 10 ft hoop. 1st wk was 0, 2nd wk 5 & this wk 10. Today he went 10/13 to finish. Love seeing kids confidence grow as they learn❤️
