Sample of how a “drill” can be progressed/manipulated. From telling which hole where to go & static starts. To more space, more speed & letting them choose. To 2v2 w/ teams. What you don’t see is the before & after- the Athletes talking, analyzing, giving feedback & strategizing

During sport, athletes express force/strength through specific actions not through barbells or DBs. More strength work can & should be viewed & performed in this manner. You don’t need a weight room to get strong & I’d vow to say the more S&C got out of the wgt room, the better

Problem with many ball/catching drills is they lack competitiveness, pressure & stress. It’s easy to look great in stationary drills but those don’t make great hands.

Sports require multiple attentional foci. Can athletes allocate that focus to a pass, catch or carrying a ball while still being aware of the environment? Interestingly, this allocation of attention & manipulation of a ball/racket may contribute to non-contact ACL injuries

No, the key to agility is NOT RFD, it’s an athletes interaction w/ the environment. Ones reciprocal relationship with information-action coupling is key to agility. This has to be the starting point when discussing agility NOT just purely looking at the kinematic/kinetic outcome
@Conor_Harris_
Conor Harris

The key to agility (and other things) is the rate of force development. How fast can you decelerate, stop, and reaccelerate? Therefore, in my opinion, eccentric force absorption capability is one of the single most important qualities most athletes need. It all starts there.

Question: What are fundamental movements skills? When coaches say, stick to the basics - what does that mean? Does an athlete need to skip in order to sprint fast? Does an athlete need to master a shuffle before doing agility? Does tumbling/crawling build athleticism?
