Today my son is turning 1. A big milestone for any baby but today holds something deeper for us. From the day we heard his cancer diagnosis, I struggled to picture this day. And yet, here we are. Stronger and deeply in love.

I can’t really describe what receiving this news felt like.We left the hospital in shock and feeling like we were trapped in a nightmare we couldn’t wake up from. Still do. Two chemo rounds later and awaiting an experimental drug, we are still fighting. (3/7)

When our little one was 2.5 months old, and after numerous tests and MRI’s, we were told that he has incredibly rare form of cancer (read: never seen like this before). Part of that diagnosis also included that he had tumours in his brain and neck. (2/7)

Ian Davey, who was my chief of staff, when I was in politics, died on Friday. Here we are dining together, Zsuzsanna, Jill,Ian, Dan Brock and me, back in 2008, in happier times. I learned so much from him. I miss him and mourn his loss.
