Long after his passing, I often think about Howard Eichenbaum. Dug up one of his characteristically supportive emails after I gave a lousy talk: "I wanted to say that your talk was great and a wonderful compliment to my own - we should go on the road as a comedy team!" 1/3

It always drives me crazy that people credit H.M., rather than Milner, for teaching us about the neural mechanisms of memory. Milner was studying temporal lobectomy patients prior to her work with H.M. and her work would have changed the game no matter what.

OK, this is bothering me, so here's a thread to clarify: "false memory" paradigms like DRM involve memory for *something* that is misattributed to the wrong source. There is a large literature on reality monitoring that speaks to this and related paradigms.

@JunhyongKim @woodforbrains Overrepresentation is a a smokescreen in my opinion. Maybe true in reductionist fields but in fields that are based more on communication & interpretation (i.e., psychology) it's a different story. I was probably the first Indian American ever admitted in my graduate program.

FYI, I don't think this is limited to UCI listeners. There'll be some very fresh (and preliminary data)...

In the new issue of @newyorker , @groopman goes deep into #whyweremember ! Aside for his incredibly generous review, the article is notable for his own storytelling about individual and collective memory. Check it out!

The individual with this precuneus lesion experienced a dramatic change in how he perceived the passage of time after surgery of a glioma. Minutes felt like hours… each time he would check his watch he’d be surprised how little time had passed. 👇

After two challenging pandemic years, I am so grateful for the incredibly stimulating discussions w/the students at FAM @LIN_Magdeburg & to my fellow speakers who graciously put up w/my stream of annoying questions. I'm inspired to do a similar meeting for @UCD_MAP in the future
