@BretDevereaux @joestieb Another thing that struck me about Chamberlin’s book was the extent to which Arafat had to fight internally to maintain control over the PLO. Arafat seems to have felt significant constraints on what he could change once the tragedy was in motion.

@joestieb Do you know Paul Chamberlin’s The Global Offensive? The impression I remember from that book is that terrorism got the PLO to a certain point of influence/leverage, but terrorism also prevented the PLO from reaching its full goal of statehood. Bit of a catch-22.
