When talking to an aspiring apprentice I try to be brutally honest about the trades. I break it into 3 tiers. And explain to them why they should stay away if they don’t intend to build a business. 👇

The skilled trades are important, and we’ve got an obvious labor shortage. But anybody trying to sell you on just “get in the trades” Is doing a massive disservice, if they aren’t simultaneously pushing you to go independent after an apprenticeship.

If you want to know how new construction is doing, This week alone I had 3 Contractors tell me: “I don’t want a bid, just name your price.” There’s so much work and no where near enough skilled labor to satisfy the demand. It couldn’t be easier to make money than it is today

1: Your average tradesmen. This is where 98% are sitting. You can make enough money to provide for a family and be reasonably comfortable. BUT you pay heavily with wear on your body and long hours. This tier should only be a stepping stone to the next, NOT where you stay.

2: Licensed tradesman/business owner. This is where you go independent. Usually focused on residential work, while attempting to scale the business. Your potential for $$$ immediate sky rockets here. This should be your minimum goal if you are looking into the trades.

Stop buying low grade furniture like this, that's made from wood shavings and paper. Most people don't know how easy it is to fill your home with quality crafted furniture. It does not have to cost a fortune to increase the lifespan and style of what you put in your home.

3. SCALE/Commercial/Govt Contracts. This tier is dependent on your ability to scale your business. Scaling is without a doubt the most difficult part in this line of work. Just ask @joshzolin There is no cap on this top tier. This is where generational wealth is made.
