@DamianShields1 The hills are actually in Glenshiel too, but even we refer to them as the 5 Sisters of Kintail, despite knowing they're in Glenshiel parish & despite there being no traditional gaelic provenance regarding the naming in the topography or from local lore/tradition.

@Cairngorm22 @ScotNational The "his great great granddaddy was scotch, I blame them" argument doesn't wash with me. No matter the ethnicity of the original settlers, responsibility for modern day attitudes are on those that hold them. Circumstances that shaped them, were 150/200 years beyond our influence.

@JamesMelville I don't see any relationship between remunerated legitimate expense & Joe Public's benefits. "We're funding the heating of politicians". No we're not, we're reimbursing cost. It's the same in every job, travel accommodation & per diem, the employer sets the expense ceilings.

@chrisgwerin @NickBirks230059 @DrSamUK @JacCymro1400 To lighten the mood here's a nonsense song using a mix of English & GĂ idhlig, includes some notable politicians in cameo roles, perhaps we could lobby to have Rupert included in a future reedit ;)

@rwsanders @acnewsitics 1 person's high dollar waste is another's manifesto commitment. Therefore any supposed findings are highly subjective. Despite that, any serious action would seek to tackle your country's $35 trillion national debt. Rather than ideological tinkering & playing to the gallery.

@DavidsonMagnus @_JamieMcIntyre I've got sticks in my shed that came off ground that I planting myself, part of my carbon offset portfolio. Just as well, because I'm still supplementing wood with a few ovoids. Although my coal usage is now very much reduced I'll keep using ovoids until the UK ends domestic gas.

@RewildScotland @ScotGovFM We have short memories, a month ago we had an illegal release hence the announced kibosh on an official programme. Play silly games, win silly prizes. Europe manages because of proximity to established populations, wolf lynx & bear simply reoccupy suitable habitat, if allowed.

@_JamieMcIntyre I don't oppose any shooting in principal. But take issue with excess. I regard the entrenched zero compromise posturing at either end of the environmental & shooting lobbies, a form of indoctrination induced mental illness. IMO, moderation & compromise can accommodate both.

@_JamieMcIntyre I wove a critically pointed monologue throughout the comments sections, cumulating in a polite but firm rejection of the policy, replete with a sharp critique of HC's track record. My only quarter was to use the word "perceived" in relation to HC's rural urban spend imbalance.

@JohnsWalks1 @57seoras I can't take credit for any thatching that occurred during the renovation, nor can my thatcher pal. Ours' was just a repair, for which my biggest input was moral support & cutting the rashes. Can't remember the fellow's name that did it, Jim? I think. I'll find out though.

@JohnsWalks1 @57seoras It's been a while since I was in there, 7 or 8 years. The interior was pretty dank as its been unoccupied for as long as I can remember, but the visible parts of the frame still looked good. I was helping make a running repair to the thatch. I'd need to ask as to its let status.

@_JamieMcIntyre Yeah, almost spat my coffee when I got to that page. A crap proposal that won't target the demographic or disturbance caused, a tax paid by everyone bar those actually pressuring local infrastructure & resources. I didn't enjoy it, it got me even more riled than I already was.

@samuel1021 @overlandertheb1 To manufacture even more hazardous waste byproducts? Show where, in human history, a civilisation had persisted long enough to have been a viable custodian of nuclear waste? Some reprocessed waste byproducts have a half-life > than the time our species has been on the planet.

@deantweetman @annewitha_e @AlexMacLeod9 For travel to & from Scotland, we also have connectivity to transit hubs in Paris Amsterdam Copenhagen Dubai Istanbul & Toronto. There's no need for Heathrow or a new runway, for Scots/N English customers, who are also much better served/protected by using non UK transit hubs.

@JohnWMacPherson @HighlandHistory Indeed, just saw the 2nd photo. Enough to wash out the line, in big enough.

@JohnWMacPherson @HighlandHistory By the late 80's I'd made peace with the rain. Given up on wonder fabrics & for work had embraced moist but warm UPVC oil skins. Manning up to the perpetual deluge wasn't easy. Learning of the misery & poor luck of the Gaidheil, from Flan O'Brien's "The Poor Mouth", helped a lot.
