What you're missing though, is goods that are internationally traded are still valued in US dollars. That iphone is still $900US in their local currency.

My dad actually moved most of his 401k to cash right before the big drop. He was heavily invested in high dividend REITs. And he was just a simple man doing his 30 years at GM who's lived awhile and saw the cycle.

NPR actually did a pretty did a pretty good piece on this. Talking to Chinese in the poverty reduction program. A lot of the people regret joining it. As they had to give up their village properties and can't grow their own food. Couple that with a lack of decent paying jobs.
