I had to explain to someone that I don't dislike Power Rangers but I do dislike how association with it shuts down most tokusatsu conversations you want to have in the USA other than like, Godzilla
I want a very intelligent author and director to make an isekai anime that deconstructs and completely embarass the genre by showcasing everything wrong it does.
People actually believe Shin Ultraman is going to be in the same universe as Shin Godzilla
I'm begging you please watch movies that aren't just the MCU
This picture actually sums up my biggest gripe with the show
You named the show after the robot
Where is the robot?
The entire POINT of a teamwork centered robot anime is the robot's successful combination and effectiveness is a reflection of the teams
It could have been good
Mecha's not dead
My guy we are getting a Voltes V show and Grendizer is going to get a new anime + we got Dynazenon, 86, Getter Arc and a ton of other stuff just two years ago
It feels more like a renaissance than anything else
I really really really like Leopardon and it's annoying how people look at it and go 'oh of course they gave the Japanese Spider-Man a Megazord' when 1. 'Megazord', that's factually wrong on several levels and 2. yes that's just how toku did things back then and it was cool af
You mean like in the 2000's when Gurren Lagann created Robots?
Or like in the 90's when Evangelion created Robots?
Or like in the 80's when Gundam created Robots?
Or like in the 70's when Mazinger created Robots?
Or like in the 60's when . . .
Finished Megas XLR
Nothing new to say here it was fantastic and has a whole lot of heart
I want a word with whoever decided this show should be a tax write off
Mecha anime is great because at this point even if it 'died' and no new anime was produced I could still watch fantastic content from the genre continuously.
It's a seemingly bottomless pit of good quality with tons of different stories to tell.
Dunno what I'm more sick of, people missing the flashing neon sign that is the point of Evangelion or people missing the very clearly on fire so bright you shouldn't miss it theme of G Gundam
I will never understand the argument that mecha shouldn't have human hands or proportions
(Granted Voltron has lion heads instead of hands but still)
So much of the genre gets passed over because people want realism out of giant robots when they by design aren't supposed to be
@CSarracenian
This happened to Evangelion and it makes me sad. The TV show was a good commentary on a lot of things and then that commentary was ignored.
Somebody on T v T ropes said GaoGaiGar was 'like if a story like Gurren Lagann was set in the world of Evangelion' and I wanted to scream
Not in a gatekeepy elitist way but in a please watch more than just 2 robot cartoons kinda way
I went in blind to a literal Rock Em' Sock Em' Robots movie about a deadbeat dad and his kid and -
This should be the movie we scream about every other month for people to watch rather than the 2018 Krispy Kreme movie
GOATed. Immaculate. My Robot Dad can beat up your Robot Dad.
