It still makes the ICC a lot of money so it’ll survive until there’s more money to be made doing something else. Whilst there will probably be fewer ODIs, I can’t see teams dropping them entirely as there will still be a need to prepare for WCs.
@TheBarmyArmy
Haven’t watched it yet. Been saving it. The first series made me really like the bastards. Suspect I will come out of this one thinking Australia won the Ashes and willing to campaign for Pat as World President, Pope and Nobel Prize winner.

Quinoa Salad - healthy and not too heavy. It allows me to perform at my physical peak like a well oiled cricketing machine…
Nah, fuck it. I’m not kidding anyone. An enormous plate of curry, a slice of Victoria Sponge and a swift pint of extra strong cider for me please.
@jonathancampion
Details, details, details…
I’d love to know how AI can manage complicated stuff like voice cloning and deepfake yet it’s completely bamboozled by cricket stumps.
@manwithlargehat
The proposed reintroduction of National Service is a great way to obliterate their appeal to young people and to parents with teenage children. It’s almost as if they’re trying to lose.
@CountyChamp
Either you’re a genuine fast bowler or you’re not. He seems to be further than ever from opening for England.
Something isn’t right: skills - doubtful; attitude - maybe; fitness - possibly. Or maybe the captain asked him to bowl spin - unlikely.
@TheCricketerMag
Once the money from the sale of the 💯 teams has been spent and the non-hosting clubs are struggling to balance their books again, what will the ECB do to ensure the viability of all 18 counties?
Is this sale just kicking county cricket’s financial problems down the road?
@huwzat
@MichaelVaughan
It’s tragic that English cricket has been so poorly financially managed that we now have no choice but to sell the 100 to enable some counties to survive. I only hope to God that private ownership works and that it generates enough tv revenue to sustain the counties.
@Athersmike
Sadly, I expect them to be England’s last great fast bowlers.
Nobody else will have time to develop into a legend before Test cricket is diminished into little more than an infrequent spectacle. I struggle to imagine another Englishman taking 300 Test wickets.
@huwzat
It’s easy to say that, but tv revenue keeps the game alive. Are Sky going to pay big money to show competitions that lack top talent?
If the big stars are all playing elsewhere, the likelihood is that there will be less money for the whole game and financial woes will persist.
@gowellender
@JackRuleLD
It feels to me that
@thecricketdraft
has been a game changer for engagement with the county game. I really hope it has the same effect when it comes to women’s cricket. If that’s what helps build a new audience and a new longterm fanbase then I’m absolutely all for it.
@DanKingdom96
@nickfshort
When you say it is without proper scrutiny, conversations about the sale have been ongoing between the ECB and the counties for months. Are you suggesting that the county CEOs/Chairs have not done the proper analysis and assess the ECB’s proposals? If so, how do you know that?
@JackRuleLD
@YorkshireCCC
This is disgusting behaviour towards a young man who does an awful lot for cricket and who is an inspiration to many. I hope you agree that this appalling abuse

Foakes, Pope and Surrey’s batting depth have been a crucial part of their Championship wins over the last two years. But, goodness me, just look at the quality their attack. Worrall and Clark have been immense already this season then there’s Roach, Atkinson, Steel etc etc
@gowellender
@CricketRef
There has to be some ODI cricket to enable teams to prepare for the ODWC. That’s still the premier ICC event and generates a huge amount of tv revenue for ICC members.

The ECB are chasing the money but I’m not sure there’s another way to keep struggling clubs solvent and pay top players competitive rates. I wish there was.
I don’t really want outside investment but nobody has been able to propose a credible alternative plan I can get behind.

@TheCricketPaper
Thankfully there is a bit more of an attempt to explain the thinking under the Richards than there was under Harrison. Equally, we should remember that, as members, we are only a small proportion of the number who watch/participate in cricket. It’s a difficult balance

I’m sure if he ever reads this, he will be incredibly touched by your kind words. Equally, if he felt that it was right to delete his account, it was probably for the best too. Twitter isn’t the real world after all.

The problem is that Sky has no interest in showing the Blast to the extent that would require. They are the game’s primary funder. Until another broadcaster comes along to bid for domestic rights, the ECB has little choice but to provide content that Sky wants to show.

If there is no criminal sanction that suggests a fine will be the punishment for non-compliance. So the rich will be able afford for their children to opt out.

No conscription is not a normal system. Please don’t normalise it. Conscription is the desperate act of a Government faced with an imminent attack from an adversery that a conventional, professional military is not expected to be able to hold back. We are not it that situation.
@WisdenCricket
Is there currently a better bowler than Anderson out there in county cricket worthy of taking his spot?
Not for my money and those who come close (Worrall, Porter and Cook) probably won’t get picked.
@ToppersSnr
@OwenJervis1
My point was more than something else has to be played at the same time as TH otherwise there will be no cricket at 10 clubs in August.
@AMP86793444
Owners should leave the cricket to the actual cricketers. I know they’ve spent a lot of money and they may be great at making money but, honestly, just leave the coaching to the coaches.
@slimmatt1
@TheCricketerMag
Indeed. I don’t really have faith that they will manage things properly given some of their track records, so I suspect it will end up falling to the ECB as funder of last resort.

Surely there could be something like in Major League Baseball where someone throws the first pitch of the game? Lord Gower facing the first ball for Leicestershire in the ODC?
@cricket_badger
That feels like a bit of an envious comment from Strauss. It affects the best of us I suppose. Sadly, he’s tarnished his legacy. He’s not a good administrator. I believe that his intentions were genuine but the HPR was a poorly thought through and poorly executed piece of work
@dgriffinpix
That really is a good’n. I know that Cardus could be a bit of a questionable character and that his match reports were sometimes fabricated but, boy, he could really pen a phrase.
@HistoryPegg
It’s a sad indictment of how uncivilised we have become. Those people were feral. Please can we have our country back from the Farage’s indoctrinated “patriots”?

I sat in on the last Lancashire SGM. I felt that Anson came across pretty badly. He seemed reluctant to engage with members’ questions, evasive and it really seemed like he didn’t want to be there. Cricket needs to work harder to attract high calibre, passionate, energetic people

I liked a lot of what he said. I can’t see Sky or the ECB agreeing that the Hundred should be played in September though. Sky want it to slot into their schedule whilst there’s no premier league football and the ECB want families to be able to attend during the school holidays.
