Hope everyone enjoys their next few days of cricket.
In August, cricket takes a summer break with no first class cricket played in the country. For many there will be only four days of any professional cricket played in their region.
A disgrace!
Leicestershire CCC forum.
At 1 hour 22 the Leicestershire chair feedback to ECB will be No to moving RLODC to April. No to the schedule reduction in CC matches. No to losing two home T20 matches.
"Now that we know what you want that will be our view"
The really big news coming from Surrey today is their chairman's public commitment to protecting the County Championship and playing it every month during the summer.
Please RT so that every cricket fan knows this.
We need other counties to make the same commitment.
In 2023 there wasn't a single game of 1st class cricket (FCC) in August. In 2024 no domestic FCC starts in July and the next game isn't until 22 August.
Merry Christmas from the Extinction Cricket Board.
We can & must use our county votes next year to save FCC from Mammon.
The latest ECB leak to Telegraph perpetuates the false narrative that the game is broke.
The ECB made 335m last year. That's over 200m more than five years before.
The game isn't broke.
It doesn't need to be sold to billionaires.
It needs to sort out its priorities.
The outrage over the cancellation of FA Cup replays is a warning to all cricket fans of what can happen when you allow money to dominate.
We do have a choice whether to sell the peak summer or not. Please don't let anyone tell you there is no choice.
County members were not consulted before the Hundred was brought in. Our chiefs are now discussing making it a permanent focal point for the domestic season.
If you want to see other options worked up that build on the counties rather than franchises then now is the time to act
@Paul_NewmanDM
@BumbleCricket
Hundred to become bigger but ECB refuse to say what becomes smaller in their dash to sell the game to private owners.
No vision for first class and Test cricket.
As it stands it would be a huge mistake for the counties to vote for these changes.
Pleased to say that Surrey's chair and CEO totally distanced themselves from any such sentiment and confirmed that Surrey would not agree to any breakaway of the host counties.
Our core purpose is to ensure county cricket thrives. We are delighted to help launch
@ccricketday
. County Cricket has a unique charm & community spirit. Fans can watch world class players like Jimmy Anderson, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and many more at a fraction of the price.
When the Hundred was introduced, we weren't given a say.
We won't be given a say about making it permanent and expanding it either!
We will have to insist on having a say.
Silence, social media moans or leaving your county will all be taken as agreement. Only votes count!
A detailed note on the plans to sell the 💯 & its wider implications.
At the moment it feels like "Strauss by Stealth'.
County members aren't blind to the challenges facing our game. We wish to help shape solutions rather than object from the side!
Another Telegraph ECB leak article. Again it claims English cricket is financially strained and the consensus is that outside investment is needed.
Outside investment is code for selling the game to wealthy people.
No need to sell our heritage so rich people can get richer!
Games this week were a reminder of just how fabulous our game is.
We will support and grow
@ccricketday
next year
There are 50 days until the next champo games. How can we as county devotees help promote the game?
Would love to hear your ideas to sell the August fixtures
Well done
@leicsccc
on their support for County Cricket Day
Hopefully
@kevinhowells100
can give this a mention on the county championship coverage today? 👃
County championship attendance table for 2023.
Can we set up a working group of volunteers at each county to devise a plan to improve them?
Who is willing to volunteer?
If Strauss had an ounce of dignity he would acknowledge the high quality and drama county cricket produces and look to enhance it rather than shrink it.
MCC members want an analysis of the full long term implications of franchise ownership of the 💯 for the whole game especially the implications for ECB’s support for the 18 counties and the game of cricket. They seek a full discussion and member vote. Will they get one?
Has anyone explained why the sale of the 💯 with its huge redistribution of wealth from poorer 11 counties to the wealthier 8 hosts is actually in the best interests of the game as a whole?
How will it help support first class cricket?
Our 10 questions
The simple fact it is being sold is an admission that we have been unable to fulfil its potential. It's hard to see how new owners will increase its value without consequential damage to the counties.
Lots of questions to answer about external investment in the Hundred. We expect county bosses/ECB to consider carefully why the game should be sold to private owners and the consequences.
Members must be consulted and listened to before such a seismic decision is taken.
We are expecting the first dates for member forums to be announced very soon to discuss making the Hundred the permanent focal point of the summer along with selling stakes in it to private owners so that it can become even bigger in future.
Vote with your vote not your feet!
There is no domestic first class cricket between 4 July and 22 August.
A glimpse of the future when franchise teams are owned by billionaires. Then there may not even be test cricket during the English franchise season.
A big thank you to every cricket fan who has supported the launch of County Cricket Day.
@ccricketday
Together we can reach 100s of thousands cricket lovers.
Please RT to make Sunday 30th June the fans' County Cricket Day and have a fabulous time at a game.
Thank you to all the county cricket members & supporters who've given up their time to help campaign. Our next job is harder & more important, to ensure county cricket thrives. More members, more volunteers, higher satisfaction levels & better governance
We are yet to see why the ECB want to sell stakes in the Hundred to private owners, expand the tournament so that it replaces the Blast.
What are the likely consequences of ceding control to private interests?
All fans deserve the answers & a say on these drastic plans.
Please do share this podcast far and wide. We want county cricket to thrive and grow. A first class future for all!
Thanks too to
@lancscccaction
for their help in giving the campaign vital momentum.
County cricket matters to us all.
@AnnieChave
@MattersCounty
It is essential that county members are consulted about these moves.
Lancashire CCC board confirmed at their SGM that they are in favour of a top division of 12 playing 1st class cricket with 11 fixtures.
What do your county's board want to do?
We are very pleased to be supporting a new grassroots promotion.
"County Cricket Day"
This will become an annual event as we all encourage people to enjoy a day out.
More details to come soon.
If you want to help with it at your local county get in touch.
The new plans to sell the 💯 also involve squeezing the schedule and marginalising 9 to 11 counties.
No wonder they are described as "Strauss by Stealth".
Once private money owns the main part of the season then it won't be long before it controls everything else.....
✅ "The Hundred has an opportunity to underpin the whole of the rest of the game in this country."
🏏 "It can easily be the second best short form tournament behind the IPL."

Michael Vaughan says openly what many cricket bosses privately think but don't actually say out loud.
We strongly recommend county members reject the proposal to make the Hundred the permanent focal point of the summer & sell stakes to private owners.
Speaking to
@melindafarrell
for the latest issue of Wisden Cricket Monthly, Michael Vaughan has called for a radical shake-up of the domestic game in England, suggesting that the 18 first-class counties are replaced by ten franchise teams.

Good that counties are announcing member forums to explain plans to make the Hundred the permanent focal point of domestic cricket.
It sounds as though minds are made up at some county boards.
What happens if members don't agree with their plans? No votes have been promised.
Last night members voted out the chair at Gloucestershire CCC AGM.
During a fractious meeting the club CEO committed to sharing an ECB slide deck on the Sale of the Summer to private owners with members and holding a consultation before taking any final decisions.
We've heard a lot about private investment in the Hundred. ECB very keen to secure this format of the game for the future.
What's their plan for Test cricket's future? What discussions have they had with other boards? What's their plan to run the best 1st class competition?
The threats posed by these proposals are such that county boards should have a full consultation with their members before voting on them.
This cannot be pushed through in secret during the winter.
We welcome Oli Slipper's commitment as Surrey's chair.
"To protect the County Championship, the game's marquee competition, played throughout all months of the English summer."
We ask every county chair to make the same commitment. Each county's position can then be noted.
The 💯 is supposed to be popular because it fills the TV schedule outside the football season.
Football started 11 August this season.
The 💯 ran 1 August to 27 August.
It had 10 days outside the football season.
Please can county members try to bring a friend or family member on the 30th.
This is the first year of the concept. It will be an annual event that we want to see grow each year.
First class cricket is an amazing game.
It can provide moments like this which will stay with you for the rest of your life.
A real "I was there" moment.
Don't miss County Cricket Day on Sunday!
Good morning - if you are waking up and hearing about this amazing innings - here you go - the condensed version (doesn’t really do it justice though) oh ….and you can see him in action next Sun free as we take on Middlesex at the Uptonsteel County Ground 🦊👍
@TheCricketerMag
@huwzat
Huw, it's our understanding that the majority of the counties are against a second division for the Hundred. Has that changed?
Nail. Head
If we want English cricket run for money, for the interest of global franchises, with fewer and less relevant counties along with 10 first class teams playing 9 matches then do nothing.
You may feel it is going to happen anyway but we all have votes. Time to engage.
Do county members at Lancashire, Glamorgan, Nottinghamshire, Surrey and Warwickshire support this hardball stand?
The 💯 was set up as an asset for the whole game.
Principles seem to be flying out the window.
Please listen to our interview on 5live extra. Scroll back to just after 1310 where Kevin Howell generously allowed the whole lunch interval to listen to our views
This is one of the many reasons why we should not rush into a sale of the Hundred. We need a sustainable cricket model that the majority of cricket players and fans can support. Then we can decide what we need to sell our assets for, if anything at all.
Can I say again how absolutely flipping bonkers this is? You don’t make “profits” from selling equity. That’s not “profit” - it is the family silver, that you have sold for ever. Shocking lack of knowledge of basic economics from everyone involved.
Grateful for the opportunity to explain our views.
Members are not blind to the game's challenges, are very much open for positive change and want to be involved in the discussions.
We have an important role in the game to hold county boards to account, not to be blockers.
To help improve awareness amongst cricket fans of the significance of the ECB proposals being discussed with county bosses this winter, we produced this explanatory note.
Members ought to have a meaningful say before these drastic changes are decided.
County members are cricket's guardians. They appoint the boards & chair who in turn oversee the running of clubs by professionals they appoint.
The ECB acts as a collective with consent of its member counties.
The fundamental & irreversible changes must be agreed not imposed.
Congratulations to the 15 selected for the u19 world cup. You have our best wishes.
7 of the 15 come from counties that do not host the 💯 so let's not underestimate the value of a diverse spread of elite cricket centres across the country.
England have confirmed their 15-player squad for next month's U19 World Cup in South Africa.
Durham batter Ben McKinney captains the side, while Farhan Ahmed, brother of England leggie Rehan, makes the squad at the age of just 15.
With
@GeorgeDobell1
breaking the bombshell of the host counties are threatening a breakaway in the 💯 there is a Surrey members forum tonight where this issue will be raised.
How many Surrey members will support this stance?
@TheCricketerMag
Does selling the Hundred teams actually help sustain 18 county 1st class system because it seems to transfer around £100m of cricket assets from 11 smaller counties to 7 major match ground counties? How does taking from the poor to give to the rich help the game in any way?
Don't forget that in cricket, fans already have a major say because 15 counties are member controlled and the ECB answers to the counties.
If we allow the ECB to sell 💯 teams to private owners then it won't be long before they call the major shots affecting the game.
Fans must have a real say over the management of clubs. At the very least, this should mean fan representatives on club boards.
But to give supporters genuine control, we need a German-style 50+1 model, in which fans and not external investors hold the majority of voting rights.
Last summer there was not a single first class game of cricket in the month of August.
In the coming summer no domestic first class cricket match starts in July. The next game is 22 August
Has any county chair explained why they have agreed to this?
@opposethe100
@rayblundel
Counties will be holding member forums once they have a decision they want to tell members about.
Members must be alert to being salami sliced into expanding the Hundred, giving control to private owners, concentrating the game at the 8 Test grounds & running down FCC.
There's a serious debate to be had about the need for/benefits of private investment in our game along with the risks & costs involved.
It can't be done without transparency & hard facts.
Here are 10 questions to answer to allow an informed debate.
Can't imagine anyone is surprised by the revelations in the Telegraph so the question is who blinks first?
Or can you blink if you're mesmerized by the cash like a rabbit waiting for the snake to eat it?
Had a great day at Southport. Chatted to lots of people with some great ideas to build on the success of County Cricket Day.
It's a fabulous game. We just don't say it often enough to as many people as we could do.
Some incredible scorecards today. Hope you enjoyed it as well

It's obviously up to Rod to decide who he wants to sell his business to.
It's also up to the members of 15 counties whether they want to start the slippery slope of making the Hundred the focal point of the domestic game and selling stakes to private owners like the IPL.
YCCC debts of 17m due in 2024.
Graves offers 1m if the current board replaced with a promise to find 4m more but no guarantees. Proposals will then follow on how the remaining 16m or 12m of debt is repaid.
Is this really the best deal available? YCCC members should ask tough Qs
County bosses meetings this week around selling the 💯. ECB wants broad agreement on proposals this month, so that counties can formally vote. Then ECB to appoint investment bankers to help expedite the sale in time for next year.
Massive decision. Once done, no going back
Brutal but real! And perhaps from the horses' mouths but not new!
Luddite members will kill county cricket unless they allow change', says Durham chief executive
It's hard to pin down precise details but professional cricket brings in around £600m a year revenue in this country.
ECB 340m
Counties 200m*
MCC 60m
* Excluding ECB distributions
Is the main reason to sell the 💯 because we have been unable to run it successfully?
There is a bubble of private equity money all across sport. Do we want our game run by money?
Postmaster Alan Bates showed through dogged persistence that the "skint little people" can win. Members need to unite & reject the takeover plans our county bosses are so keen on.
Very important point.
This is a fan-led initiative to encourage all cricket fans to get involved in promoting the game.
Any offers or assistance the counties can give to the event is greatly appreciated.
Let's make it a big day out for all cricket fans.
@fcmad1960

It’s a day to support the counties not the counties to support fans. It’s up to the individual counties to offer what they can. Some can’t offer a huge reduction - shows how important the county game is!
ECB say they consulted fans on the HPR through

Another glimpse of the future as more T20s replace test matches.
We understand the economics faced by the West Indies but it is very sad to see nonetheless.
If you don't want money to drive all the decisions then be very careful of private ownership dominating in E&W
West Indies hope to extend England's tour next year - currently 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is - to include two more T20Is, which would help make up for not hosting England in Tests in the current cycle.
Huw's article confirms what many feared that there is a determined body of CEOs who want to reduce the Championship to 10 games to focus on T20 and selling to private owners.
Time for each county CEO to be honest with members where they stand on this.
Glamorgan AGM Thursday
@CCMembersGroup
The "fit and proper" test will be key as we can see from both Premier League and EFL. Organisations/people with that amount of money to "invest" play to different rules to the rest of us
@thefulltoss
This is a very valid point and it shrinks the people who take the next generation to the games too.
If/when the franchise bubble bursts, what will remain?
So much of the good done in cricket is by unpaid volunteers.
The answer to Mr Bostock's complaint is to involve members more, talk to them, explain the issues, debate the solutions.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TICKETS FOR SUNDAY’s PLAY HAVE NOW SOLD OUT. There are still tickets available for Days 2, 3 & 4 in varying numbers, but please buy in advance to avoid disappointment.
Counties being offered a stake in franchise teams but whats the catch?
Lose 1.3m annual payments that the 💯 can't afford?
Be prepared to put extra funding into 💯?
Lose Blast income when 💯 includes all 18?
Permanent elite in 💯 with promotion very hard to achieve?
