Until we eradicate the ‘badge of honour’ that comes with being innumerate. Numeracy will always play second fiddle to literacy. It’s seen as being socially acceptable whereas being illiterate isn’t

Today I told my classes that I would be leaving at the end of the school year.
There is always that one class that you feel incredibly guilty about leaving behind!

From a teacher point of view, I’d love to see the intermediate tier return if the grading was as followed:
Higher 9-5
Intermediate 6-3
Foundation 4-1
It would be a logistical nightmare for exam boards if you retained 3 papers per tier too though.
NEW: Maths in a minute - quick video tutorials. This is a work in progress but the 4 videos I have added tonight look pretty good!

Offered my year 11’s a BennettMaths pen if they hit their target grade on their mocks.
Is it a coincidence that some students are gaining 15+ marks per paper?

What you are seeing is inadequate teachers. Maths should always be modelled, PowerPoint is a great place to store ‘my turn/your turns’ and questions.

I use PowerPoint every single lesson. I never use animations. I use ppt as a place to store my ‘my turn/ your turn’s’ and questions with accompanying answers. IMO answers should always be given after questions.
If I need to deviate, I have the visualiser and whiteboard to use.

They have the correct answer. Their method isn’t incorrect. So full marks. Always mark a mock exam in the way the GCSE would be marked. You need the data to be robust and consistent across the department.

I’m currently doing AQA FM with year 10 after school once a week and have curriculum time next year. It’s a nice course not too much new content and quite a bit of crossover from GCSE.
